Details On Gaussian Process Regression (Gpr) And Semi-Gpr Modeling, Mohammad Shekaramiz, Todd K. Moon, Jacob H. Gunther
Electrical and Computer Engineering Faculty Publications
This report tends to provide details on how to perform predictions using Gaussian process regression (GPR) modeling. In this case, we represent proofs for prediction using non-parametric GPR modeling for noise-free predictions as well as prediction using semi-parametric GPR for noisy observations.
A Tutorial On Learning Human Welder's Behavior: Sensing, Modeling, And Control, Y. K. Liu, W. J. Zhang, Yu Ming Zhang
A Tutorial On Learning Human Welder's Behavior: Sensing, Modeling, And Control, Y. K. Liu, W. J. Zhang, Yu Ming Zhang
Electrical and Computer Engineering Faculty Publications
Human welder's experiences and skills are critical for producing quality welds in manual GTAW process. Learning human welder's behavior can help develop next generation intelligent welding machines and train welders faster. In this tutorial paper, various aspects of mechanizing the welder's intelligence are surveyed, including sensing of the weld pool, modeling of the welder's adjustments and this model-based control approach. Specifically, different sensing methods of the weld pool are reviewed and a novel 3D vision-based sensing system developed at University of Kentucky is introduced. Characterization of the weld pool is performed and human intelligent model is constructed, including an extensive …
Simulation And Modeling Of Return Waveforms From A Ladar Beam Footprint In Usu Ladarsim, Scott E. Budge, B.C. Leishman, R.T. Pack
Simulation And Modeling Of Return Waveforms From A Ladar Beam Footprint In Usu Ladarsim, Scott E. Budge, B.C. Leishman, R.T. Pack
Electrical and Computer Engineering Faculty Publications
Ladar systems are an emerging technology with applications in many fields. Consequently, simulations for these systems have become a valuable tool in the improvement of existing systems and the development of new ones. This paper discusses the theory and issues involved in reliably modeling the return waveform of a ladar beam footprint in the Utah State University LadarSIM simulation software. Emphasis is placed on modeling system-level effects that allow an investigation of engineering tradeoffs in preliminary designs, and validation of behaviors in fabricated designs. Efforts have been made to decrease the necessary computation time while still maintaining a usable model. …

Design, Modeling, And Characterization Of Fet-Seed Smart Pixel Transceiver Arrays For Optical Backplanes, David V. Plant, Alain Z. Shang, Marcos R. Otazo, David R. Rolston, Brian Robertson, Harvard Scott Hinton
Electrical and Computer Engineering Faculty Publications
The design, modeling, and characterization of FET-SEED smart pixel transceiver arrays fabricated for application in optical backplanes are presented. Results of digital and analog measurements on 4×4 transmitter arrays and 4×4 receiver arrays, packaged at the printed circuit-board level, will be presented. In addition, these results will be compared to device and circuit models developed for these optoelectronics. Finally, the description of the successful application of these optoelectronics to interconnect two printed circuit boards will be described.
