Automated Myocardial Infarction Diagnosis From Ecg, Chen Zhou
Automated Myocardial Infarction Diagnosis From Ecg, Chen Zhou
Doctoral Dissertations
In the present dissertation, an automated neural network-based ECG diagnosing system was designed to detect the presence of myocardial infarction based on the hypothesis that an artificial neural network-based ECG interpretation system may improve the clinical myocardial infarction. 137 patients were included. Among them 122 had myocardial infarction, but the remaining 15 were normal. The sensitivity and the specificity of present system were 92.2% and 50.7% respectively. The sensitivity was consistent with relevant research. The relatively low specificity results from the rippling of the low pass filtering. We can conclude that neural network-based system is a promising aid for the …
Role Of Nitric Oxide As A Modulator Of Platelet Dense Granule Release, Clifton Ford Frilot Ii
Role Of Nitric Oxide As A Modulator Of Platelet Dense Granule Release, Clifton Ford Frilot Ii
Doctoral Dissertations
Nitric oxide (NO) has been shown to suppress platelet activation, induce vasodilation, inhibit smooth muscle cell proliferation, and act against infection. Activated platelets generally have opposite effects from these. They secrete platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF), which stimulates smooth muscle growth, serotonin, which is a platelet agonist, and a number of agents that promote further platelet aggregation. However, activated platelets also produce NO through the enzymatic functions of the constitutive form of nitric oxide synthase (NOS). The primary functions of this capability are not yet completely understood. Due to its low molecular weight and high diffusivity, NO is quickly transported from …
Generation Of Oxygen Microbubbles In A Microchannel With Crosscurrent Liquid Flow, Sung Sam Kim
Generation Of Oxygen Microbubbles In A Microchannel With Crosscurrent Liquid Flow, Sung Sam Kim
Doctoral Dissertations
An alternative way of blood oxygenation is proposed by introducing small bubbles directly into the blood stream. To be used for blood oxygenation, the bubble should be small enough to pass through the capillary beds. To explore the feasibility of producing small bubbles, bubble formation phenomena in a crosscurrent liquid flow in a silicon microchannel were studied. Small orifices with 4 μm, 4.2 μm, and 6.6 μm hydraulic diameter were machined in a direction perpendicular to a trapezoidal channel that has a hydraulic diameter of 42 micrometers. These orifices were connected to three different chambers of 2.5 × 10−7 cm3, …
Ground Movement Associated With Microtunneling, Zhenyang Duan
Ground Movement Associated With Microtunneling, Zhenyang Duan
Doctoral Dissertations
Microtunneling is a trenchless technology for construction of pipelines. Its process is a cyclic pipe jacking operation. Microtunneling has been typically used for gravity sewer systems in urban areas. Despite its good success record overall, several large ground settlement cases caused by microtunneling have been reported. Also, in contrast with large diameter urban tunneling, there are few research projects about the ground settlement caused by microtunneling.
In this dissertation, the ground settlement caused by microtunneling is studied using a theoretical approach, empirical approach, numerical simulation approach, and artificial intelligence approach.
In the theoretical approach, the equivalent ground loss and settlement …
Statistical Properties Of Maximum Likelihood Estimates For Accelerated Lifetime Data Under The Weibull Model, Mahmoud A. Yousef
Statistical Properties Of Maximum Likelihood Estimates For Accelerated Lifetime Data Under The Weibull Model, Mahmoud A. Yousef
Doctoral Dissertations
Pipe rehabilitation liners are often installed in host pipes that lie below the water table. As such, they are subjected to external hydrostatic pressure. The external pressure leads to early deformation in the liners, which could ultimately lead to its failing or buckling before its expected service lifetime is achieved. Experiments involving long term buckling behavior of liners are typically accelerated lifetime testing procedures. In an accelerated testing procedure a liner is subjected to a constant external hydrostatic pressure and observed until it fails or for a certain time, t whichever occurs first. Liners that do not fail at time …
Evaluation Of 135- And 150-Degree Sliding Hip Screws, Kelly Blayne Crittenden
Evaluation Of 135- And 150-Degree Sliding Hip Screws, Kelly Blayne Crittenden
Doctoral Dissertations
Sliding hip screws are routinely used to repair Garden III femoral neck factures. This research seeks to better understand the influence of the hip screw angle on the performance of the fixation. The mechanics of fractured femurs repaired with 135- and 150-degree sliding fixation devices are explored using experimental, finite element, and analytical modeling. The experimental study involves testing of both intact and fixated femurs; the finite element work centers on two-dimensional models of intact and fixated femurs; and the analytical modeling explores the forces, moments and stresses in the fixation. The analytical model predicts that the screw will serve …
Structural Distress Condition Modeling For Sanitary Sewers, Vani Samyuktha Kathula
Structural Distress Condition Modeling For Sanitary Sewers, Vani Samyuktha Kathula
Doctoral Dissertations
Sewers represent a very substantial and crucial part of our underground infrastructure and a high level of investment is needed to maintain them. Sewers are generally out of sight and, as long as they continued to function reasonably well, they are also out of mind—that is, until any problems such as structural, hydraulic and functional arise. The criticality of any sewer condition is a combination of the risk of failure and the consequences of it. Therefore, a systematic approach is necessary to fully understand and evaluate the conditions of this underground infrastructure. The present state of the art does not …
Multi -Mission Attitude Determination System For Balloon Flight, Liping Mo
Multi -Mission Attitude Determination System For Balloon Flight, Liping Mo
Doctoral Dissertations
MADS (Multi-mission Attitude Determination System) is a new software package used to determine the attitude of instruments on a high-altitude balloon employed for scientific experiments. There is no existing system for the automated determination of the attitude of instruments in balloon experiments, so we have developed MADS to do the data analysis for balloon experiments to find the location of astrophysical sources such as gamma-ray or x-ray sources.
The two areas that required most work were modeling star trackers and modeling the motion of the balloon. Star trackers are used on satellites, but are far too expensive and sophisticated to …
Mathematical Modeling For Fabricating A Microstructure With A Pre-Specified Geometry Using Laser -Induced Chemical Vapor Deposition, Chaoyang Zhang
Mathematical Modeling For Fabricating A Microstructure With A Pre-Specified Geometry Using Laser -Induced Chemical Vapor Deposition, Chaoyang Zhang
Doctoral Dissertations
Laser-induced chemical vapor deposition (LCVD) is an emerging new technique with many practical applications. To optimize the system for fabricating a microstructure with a pre-specified geometry in pyrolytic LCVD, a three-dimensional mathematical model is developed for predicting temperature distributions and laser dwell times across the substrate scanned by the laser beam. A microstructure is fabricated layer by layer, and for each layer the laser beam moves from one pixel to the next. The complicated correlations among temperature distribution, deposit growth rate, and laser dwell time are investigated. A purely heterogeneous reaction is assumed and any gas-phase transport is ignored.

Postural Balance And Acceleration Threshold Detection For Anterior Horizontal Translation In Diabetic And Non-Diabetic Elderly, Venkatesh Balasubramanian
Postural Balance And Acceleration Threshold Detection For Anterior Horizontal Translation In Diabetic And Non-Diabetic Elderly, Venkatesh Balasubramanian
Doctoral Dissertations
Slips and falls, and even the fear of failing, can represent a major medical and functional deterrent to living independently, especially among the elderly population. Various groups of elders are at known risk for falling including, but not limited to, those with vestibular dysfunction, those with low visual acuity including visual neuropathies, and those with peripheral neuropathies. The first two groups are fairly well studied, but the relationship between the level of peripheral neuropathy and extent of falling has received relatively less attention.
In this study, using sliding linear investigative platform for analyzing lower limb stability (SLIP-FALLS), the psychophysical thresholds …
