Numerical Simulation Study Of Gel Treatment For Conformance Control From Lab To Field, Jianqiao Leng Jan 2022

Numerical Simulation Study Of Gel Treatment For Conformance Control From Lab To Field, Jianqiao Leng

Doctoral Dissertations

“Gel treatment has been widely applied to control reservoir conformance and thus improve the sweep efficiency of injection fluids. Quite a few numerical simulations have been conducted to investigate the factors impacting gel treatment and assist to optimize treatment design and predict the performance. However, there exists significant barrier between the simulation approaches and lab experiments. In this study, two comprehensive reviews have been conducted to identify the gaps between lab and current simulations for in-situ polymer treatment and preformed particle gel treatment, separately.

Based on the identified gaps, the effect of a few major factors which are very important …

Factors Impacting The Transport And Enhanced Oil Recovery Potential Of Polymeric Nanogel In Sandstone, Haifeng Ding Jan 2020

Factors Impacting The Transport And Enhanced Oil Recovery Potential Of Polymeric Nanogel In Sandstone, Haifeng Ding

Doctoral Dissertations

"Enhanced oil recovery (EOR) using nanometer-sized particles has drawn great attention in the oil industry because of their various advantages brought by size. However, their applications on a field scale are very limited, especially for deformable nanoparticles. The objective of this research is to explore the transport behavior of deformable polymeric nanoparticles (nanogel), the factors impacting these behavior, and their EOR potentials. First, 240 published nanoparticle core flooding experiment data were collected and analyzed about the extent to what the nanoparticles can improve oil recovery. Results show that on the laboratory scale the incremental oil recovery could be as high …

Screening Guidelines And Data Analysis For The Application Of In-Situ Polymer Gels For Injection Well Conformance Improvement, Munqith Naeem Rashak Aldhaheri Jan 2017

Screening Guidelines And Data Analysis For The Application Of In-Situ Polymer Gels For Injection Well Conformance Improvement, Munqith Naeem Rashak Aldhaheri

Doctoral Dissertations

"Excessive water production represents a major industry challenge because of its serious economic and environmental impacts. Polymer gels have been effectively applied to mitigate water production and extend the productive lives of mature oilfields. However, selecting a proper gel technology for a given reservoir is a challenging task for reservoir engineers because of the associated geological and technical complexities and the absence of efficient screening tools.

A comprehensive review for the worldwide gel field projects was conducted to develop an integrated systematic methodology that determines the applicability of three injection well gel technologies including bulk gels, colloidal dispersion gels, and …

Degradable Nanocomposite Preformed Particle Gel For Chemical Enhanced Oil Recovery Applications, Paul Tongwa Jan 2014

Degradable Nanocomposite Preformed Particle Gel For Chemical Enhanced Oil Recovery Applications, Paul Tongwa

Doctoral Dissertations

”This work presents two new materials that can be potentially used in conformance control to increase ultimate oil recovery from mature oilfields.

The first product is a degradable nanocomposite preformed particle gel for enhanced in-depth mobility control. Three different types of degradable nanocomposite preformed particle gels were synthesized. These three nanocomposite hydrogels were made using Laponite XLG, Calcium Montmorillonite, and Sodium Montmorillonite nanomaterials. It was observed that after degradation, Laponite XLG nanocomposite hydrogels had the highest post-degradation viscosity (4437 cp), followed by sodium nanocomposite hydrogels (129 cp), and lastly calcium nanocomposite hydrogels (75.5 cp). Thus, degradable Laponite XLG nanocomposite hydrogels …
