Interpretation Of Tests On Welded Light Gage Steel Connections, Mark Shephard, George Winter, Teoman Peköz Nov 1975

Interpretation Of Tests On Welded Light Gage Steel Connections, Mark Shephard, George Winter, Teoman Peköz

CCFSS Library (1939 - present)

INTRODUCTION This report interprets the results of three sets of test data (Ref. 1 through 3) on welded light-gage cold-formed steel specimens. The tests were conducted at Cornell for the American Iron and Steel Institute on 252 symmetric puddle and fillet welded connections tested under monotonically increasing static load. The tested connections consisted of 130 shop welded specimens and 122 field welded specimens. All test connections had the same basic configuration being made up of center plates, referred to as parent plates or connected plates in the references, butted together with one or, in the case of the double sheet …

Inelastic Reserve Capacity Of Cold-Formed Beams With Stiffened Compression Elements, Hans Peter Reck, George Winter, Teoman Peköz Nov 1975

Inelastic Reserve Capacity Of Cold-Formed Beams With Stiffened Compression Elements, Hans Peter Reck, George Winter, Teoman Peköz

CCFSS Library (1939 - present)

PREFACE The present Report No. 356 deals with the inelastic reserve strength of cold-formed beams with stiffened compression flanges. The usual elastic design criterion regards the initiation of yielding in the outer fibers as defining failure. This criterion is used in Part I of the A.I.S.C. Specification and in the A.I.S.I. Specification for the design of steel structures. On the other hand, for so-called compact sections, as defined in the A.I.S.C. Specification, it is known that the actual maximum moment of a cross-section exceeds the initial yield moment and is reached only when yielding spreads over the entire section (complete …

Load Factors For Wind And Snow Loads For Use In Load Resistance Factor Design Criteria, M. K. Ravindra, Theodore V. Galambos

CCFSS Library (1939 - present)

This report presents the background and the derivations for the determination of the mean maximum loads and the corresponding load factors for wind and snow loading for use in Load and Resistance Factor Design Criteria for steel building structures.

Study Of Cold-Formed Steel Structural Members Made Of Thick Sheets And Plates, William M. Mckinney, Victor A. S. Liu, Wei-Wen Yu Apr 1975

Study Of Cold-Formed Steel Structural Members Made Of Thick Sheets And Plates, William M. Mckinney, Victor A. S. Liu, Wei-Wen Yu

CCFSS Library (1939 - present)

This final report presents the results of a study of cold-formed steel structural members made of thick sheets and plates. It contains the following two parts:Part I - Local Buckling of Cold-Formed Steel Structural Members Having Compression Elements which Exhibit Initial Out-of-Flatness Part II - Effects of Cold Work on Mechanical Properties of Thick, Cold-Formed Steel Members and Bolted Connections Part I was originally a thesis prepared by William M. McKinney for the degree of Master of Science in Civil Engineering in May, 1974. Part II was originally a thesis prepared by Victor Ai-Shen Liu for the degree of Doctor …

Column Research Council: Proceedings 1975, Column Research Council

CCFSS Library (1939 - present)

One of the objectives of the Column Research Council is to hold an annual technical session with the view of presenting for evaluation problems relating to the design and behavior of columns and other compression elements in metal structures. The 1975 Proceedings contain summaries of papers presented at the technical session held on March 6-7, 1975 in Toronto Canada. A register of those who actively participate in the work of the Council, a financial statement, related publications and the Council By-Laws are also recorded.

Continuous Purlin Tests, Teoman Peköz Jan 1975

Continuous Purlin Tests, Teoman Peköz

CCFSS Library (1939 - present)

INTRODUCTION The results of the first phase of an experimental investigation are presented in this report. The objective of this investigation is to study the applicability of a theoretical approach developed at Cornell and implemented in a computer program developed by T. Pekoz for Diaphragm Braced Channel and Z-Section Purlins. In this phase of the experimental program three "full-scale" assemblies were tested under simulated wind-uplift loading. In addition, several supplementary tests were carried out to determine various physical parameters utilized in the analytical solution. The reported results are restricted to those tests that have direct bearing on correlating the test …
