Healthcare organizations attract a diversity of caregivers and patients by providing essential care. While interacting with people of various races, ethnicity, and economical background, caregivers need to be empathetic and compassionate. Proper training and exposure are needed to understand the patient’s background and handle different situations and provide the best care for the patient. With social determinants of health (SDOH) as the basis, the thesis focuses on providing exposure through “Wright LIFE (Lifelike Immersion for Equity) - A simulation-based training tool” to two such scenarios covering patients from the LGBTQIA+ community & autism spectrum disorder (ASD). This interactive tool helps …

Use Of Virtual Reality Technology In Medical Training And Patient Rehabilitation, Sankalp Mishra Jan 2019

Use Of Virtual Reality Technology In Medical Training And Patient Rehabilitation, Sankalp Mishra

Coaching patients to follow the rehabilitation routines correctly and timely after surgery is often a challenge due to the limited medical knowledge of patients and limited availability of clinicians. Similarly, it is also a challenge to train medical professionals with both the technical and communication skills required in their practices. The recent emergence of VR technologies shines the light on improving the current training practices. In this thesis research, I will look at the development and application of VR-based immersive training games for two particular cases: 1. Post hand surgery rehab; and, 2. Training for Social determinants of health (SDOH) …

Design Of An Ultra-Wideband Microstrip Antenna Array With Low Size, Weight And Power, Paul Staffan Jan 2019

Design Of An Ultra-Wideband Microstrip Antenna Array With Low Size, Weight And Power, Paul Staffan

Browse all Theses and Dissertations

This study focuses on the use of microstrip antenna technology for designing an ultra-wideband antenna to meet low size, weight and power requirements. Based on the recent literature for such antennas, a quasi-log periodic microstrip antenna array is designed to operate from 8 to 40 GHz (radar bands X, Ku, K and Ka). The array consists of 33 co-linear, inset-fed, square patches on a Roger’s Duroid substrate, and is modeled using the Advanced Design System software from Keysight. The simulated results show the antenna has pass-band gains greater than 5 dB, a half-power beamwidth of 30 degrees, and linear polarization …

Immersive Rehearsal In A Simulated Environment (Irise), Cassandra Clouse Jan 2019

Immersive Rehearsal In A Simulated Environment (Irise), Cassandra Clouse

Browse all Theses and Dissertations

Recent advancements in virtual environment (VE) technology and the growth of VE use in treating and training individuals are opening up new possibilities for rehearsal in safe and rich environments. Research has shown that VEs can be used to treat those with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), but very little research has been done to suggest good guidelines for creating an effective environment. This research was conducted to help inform the design of systems that let veterans rehearse potentially stressful experiences in a safe environment before having to physically step into that environment. We investigated responses to specific design components …
