Applying Gis Software To Visualize Temporal Changes In Drinking Water Quality Sources, Salam Radhaa Aug 2022

Applying Gis Software To Visualize Temporal Changes In Drinking Water Quality Sources, Salam Radhaa

Undergraduate Student Research Internships Conference

The Chippewas of the Thames First Nation Reserve in southwestern Ontario has been under a Boil Water Advisory for an extended period of time. This project aims to create a framework to address this issue by detecting possible pollutants and presenting in a visual manner.

Several sample sites are utilized to determine the source of pollution as there are many possibilities: upstream overflow events, farm runoff, other point sources upstream. Extra care will go to sampling within 24hr of a significant precipitation event to measure spikes in pollutants that have accumulated during dry periods.

ArcGIS software (ArcMap) is utilized as …

Usri Restore Research Group Internship, Tristan Paventi

Undergraduate Student Research Internships Conference

A powerpoint presentation summarizing my summer internship at RESTORE environmental research group. This internship mainly focused on geophysics of electromagnetic mapping of high salinity zones. Electromagnetic instruments such as the EM31-MK2 and the GEM-2 were used to detect salinity, as well as electrical resistivity Tomography (E.R.T.). Another focus was waste rock from mines, where we conducted acidity tests and sieve analysis to discover the cumulative acidity from acid mine drainage.

Moment-Curvature Relationship Of Concrete Columns Exposed To Fire From Two, Three, And Four Sides, Catherine G. Bell Aug 2022

Moment-Curvature Relationship Of Concrete Columns Exposed To Fire From Two, Three, And Four Sides, Catherine G. Bell

Undergraduate Student Research Internships Conference

Designing structures so they have adequate structural integrity in the event of a fire is extremely important. Therefore, it is important to facilitate achieving the optimal designs, which achieve fire safety while allowing for innovative solutions. Such designs are expected to follow the performance-based design criteria, which replaced the prescriptive-based design criteria in several design standards. Engineers are in dire need for tools that allow utilization of this design approach. This research addresses this need. Simplified tools that evaluate the effect of the number of column surfaces exposed to fire on its structural behavior have been examined. A column exposed …

Damage Assessment In Aging Structures Using Augmented Reality, Omar Zuhair Awadallah, Ayan Sadhu Aug 2022

Damage Assessment In Aging Structures Using Augmented Reality, Omar Zuhair Awadallah, Ayan Sadhu

Undergraduate Student Research Internships Conference

Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) is the assessment of bridges and observation of data regarding these bridges over time to monitor their evolution and detect the presence of any possible damages. However, existing methods to perform structural inspections in bridges are high in cost, time-consuming and risky. Inspectors use expensive equipment to reach a certain area of the bridge to inspect it, and at different heights, this can pose a risk to the inspector’s safety. This study aims to find cheaper, faster, and safer ways to perform structural inspections using augmented reality and artificial intelligence. The developed system uses a machine …
