Seepage barriers are commonly installed in earthen dams and levees all over the world and consist of slurry walls, concrete walls, jet grouted walls, secant pile walls, sheet pile walls, and deep soil mixed walls. The purpose of the barrier is to reduce the amount of flow and seepage through the embankment and the foundation of the dam or levee. When seepage barriers were first being used it was under the impression that barriers would be a permanent mitigation of seepage problems.
