Among anode materials for sodium ion batteries, red phosphorus is a very promising one due to its abundant reserves, low-cost and high theoretical capacity of 2600 mA h g-1. However, its huge volume expansion on sodiation (∼490%) and poor conductivity leads to dramatic capacity decay, restraining its practical application. To improve the electrochemical performance, here, we prepared a red phosphorus and graphene nanoplate composite using cheap red P and natural graphite as the starting materials via a simple and scalable ball-milling method. The phosphorus-carbon bond formed during the milling process improves the electrical connectivity between P particles and graphene nanoplates, …

Effect Of Deformation On Microstructure And Mechanical Properties Of Dual Phase Steel Produced Via Strip Casting Simulation, Zhiping Xiong, Andrii Kostryzhev, Nicole Stanford, Elena V. Pereloma

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A

The strip casting is a recently appeared technology with a potential to significantly reduce energy consumption in steel production, compared to hot rolling and cold rolling. However, the quantitative dependences of the steel microstructure and mechanical properties on strip casting parameters are unknown and require investigation. In the present work we studied the effects of strain and interrupted cooling temperature on microstructure and mechanical properties in conventional dual phase steel (0.08C-0.81Si-1.47Mn-0.03Al wt%). The strip casting process was simulated using a Gleeble 3500 thermo-mechanical simulator. The steel microstructures were studied using optical, scanning and transmission electron microscopy. Mechanical properties were measured …

Releasing business microdata is a challenging problem for many statistical agencies. Businesses with distinct continuous characteristics such as extremely high income could easily be identified while these businesses are normally included in surveys representing the population. In order to provide data users with useful statistics while maintaining confidentiality, some statistical agencies have developed online based tools to allow users to specify and request tables created from microdata. These tools only release perturbed cell values generated from automatic output perturbation algorithms in order to protect each underlying observation against various attacks, such as differencing attacks. An example of the perturbation algorithms …

A Traffic Monitoring System For A Mixed Traffic Flow Via Road Estimation And Analysis, Nguyen Viet Hung, Le Chung Tran, Nguyen Hoang Dung, Thang Manh Hoang, Nguyen Tien Dzung

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A

A Traffic Monitoring System (TMS) is the most important element in the Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), especially in a developing country like Vietnam with a mixed traffic flow of vehicles including motocycles and cars. A traffic flow varies in different daytime, therefore the adoption of the TMS for an adaptive control of the traffic light timing is very essential. The proposed TMS system uses one CCD camera mounted to view from the rear of moving vehicles appearing in a distance from a viewed span of the camera to the stopline of the cross-roads, which is denoted by L and statistically …

Particle Size Segregation Of Bulk Material In Dustiness Testers Via Dem Simulation, Sathaphon Wangchai, David B. Hastie, Peter W. Wypych

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A

Dustiness testers are used to quantify the level of dust within a bulk material. The generation of dust can occur as a result of many bulk material handling activities, including filling or discharge from storage bins, during free-fall, material impact on conveyor transfers, or impact with other materials. Dust generation can have a serious impact to the environment as well as workers and nearby communities. This paper presents the findings of a discrete element modeling (DEM) study of the flow behavior of a range of binary granular mixes tested in the European Standard and the Australian Standard dustiness testers. Due …

Enhanced Simultaneous Detection Of Ractopamine And Salbutamol - Via Electrochemical-Facial Deposition Of Mno2 Nanoflowers Onto 3d Rgo/Ni Foam Templates, Mingyan Wang, Wei Zhu, Lin Ma, Juan Juan Ma, Dongen Zhang, Zhi Wei Tong, Jun Chen

Australian Institute for Innovative Materials - Papers

In this paper, we report a facile method to successfully fabricate MnO2 nanoflowers loaded onto 3D RGO@nickel foam, showing enhanced biosensing activity due to the improved structural integration of different electrode materials components. When the as-prepared 3D hybrid electrodes were investigated as a binder-free biosensor, two well-defined and separate differential pulse voltammetric peaks for ractopamine (RAC) and salbutamol (SAL) were observed, indicating the simultaneous selective detection of both β-agonists possible. The MnO2/RGO@NF sensor also demonstrated a linear relationship over a wide concentration range of 17nM to 962nM (R=0.9997) for RAC and 42nM to 1463nM (R=0.9996) for SAL, with the detection …

Manipulating Coupling State And Magnetism Of Mn-Doped Zno Nanocrystals By Changing The Coordination Environment Of Mn Via Hydrogen Annealing, Yan Cheng, W Li, Weichang Hao, Huaizhe Xu, Zhongfei Xu, Li Rong Zheng, Jing Zhang, S X. Dou, Tianmin Wang

Australian Institute for Innovative Materials - Papers

Mn-doped ZnO nanocrystals are synthesized by a wet chemical route and treated in H2/Ar atmosphere with different H2/Ar ratios. It is found that hydrogen annealing could change the coordination environment of Mn in ZnO lattice and manipulate the magnetic properties of Mn-doped ZnO. Mn ions initially enter into interstitial sites and a Mn3+O6 octahedral coordination is produced in the prepared Mn-doped ZnO sample, in which the nearest neighbor Mn3+ and O2 ions could form a Mn3+-O2--Mn3+ complex. After H2 annealing, interstitial Mn ions can substitute for Zn to generate the Mn2+O4 tetrahedral coordination in the nanocrystals, in which neighboring Mn2+ …

Tuning Superconductivity In Fese Thin Films Via Magnesium Doping, Wenbin Qiu, Zongqing Ma, Yongchang Liu, Md Shahriar Hossain, Xiaolin Wang, Chuanbing Cai, S X. Dou

Australian Institute for Innovative Materials - Papers

In contrast to its bulk crystal, the FeSe thin film or layer exhibits better superconductivity performance, which recently attracted much interest in its fundamental research as well as in potential applications around the world. In the present work, tuning superconductivity in FeSe thin films was achieved by magnesium-doping technique. Tc is significantly enhanced from 10.7 K in pure FeSe films to 13.4 K in optimized Mg-doped ones, which is approximately 1.5 times higher than that of bulk crystals. This is the first time achieving the enhancement of superconducting transition temperature in FeSe thin films with practical thickness (120 nm) via …

(Research Article, 30 October 2015, p. 530) described a lithium-oxygen (Li-O2) battery based on lithium iodide (LiI)-assisted lithium hydroxide (LiOH) formation and decomposition. We argue that LiOH cannot be oxidized by triiodide (I3 -). The charge capacity is from the oxidation of I- instead of LiOH. The limited-capacity cycling test is misleading when the electrolyte contributes considerable parasitic reaction capacity.

Sodium ion batteries (SIBs), a potential alternative to lithium ion batteries (LIBs), have attracted remarkable attention recently due to the abundant natural resources for their precursors and their low cost.[1-3] The requirement of feasible electrode materials with high sodium storage capacity and good cycling stability has promoted the exploration of various electrode materials for SIBs.
