The use of capacitively coupled contactless conductivity detection (C 4 D) for the characterisation of thin conductive graphene fi bres, graphene composite fi bres, and graphene coated fi brous materials is demon- strated for the fi rst time. Within a few seconds, the non-destructive C 4 D detector provides a pro fi le of the longetudinal physical homogeneity of the fi bre, as well as extra information regarding fi bre mophology and composition. This paper describes the development and implementation of a comprehensive methodology to select and implement energy efficiency upgrades to the homes of low-income, older (>60 years) Australians. This work was conducted as part of a project entitled, 'Energy Efficiency in the 3rd Age (EE3A)", which targeted lowincome older residents in the Illawarra Region of NSW, Australia, and was funded by an Australian Federal Government 'Low Income Energy Efficiency Program (LIEEP)' grant for AUD2.3M. The project included a social marketing and behaviour change component engaging ~650 households, and a retrofit program for a subset of ~183 of these homes. Households …

The recycling of steel plant by-products is a critical issue that needs thorough assessment and development for the sustainability of the integrated steel plant, from both environmental and economical perspectives. Research is being undertaken in the Steel Research Hub that aims to realise the value of by-products to the Australian steel industry and minimise the amount of by-product going to long term stockpile. Physical parameters, such as microscopic and roughness, play important roles in microforming process due to an increasing ratio of surface to volume of the deformed material. The study on lubrication characterisation in microforming is getting more attractive to researchers because traditional models are not reliable in this scaled down process. This paper reports on the characterisation of water sprays for the purpose of modelling the effectiveness of such sprays in mitigating the impacts of wildfires on residential buildings. Four types of water spray nozzles were experimentally tested and analysed using a single high-speed camera and image analysis software. The sprays were generated by a misting nozzle, a hollow-cone nozzle, a rotating 'butterfly' sprinkler and a deflector plate sprinkler. Back-illumination was used to produce silhouette images of droplets within each spray. The paper presents a study performed by the Centre for Medical Radiation Physics (CMRP) using a high spatial and temporal resolution silicon pixelated detector named MagicPlate- 512. The study focuses on the characterisation of three pencil beams from a low-dose rate, 6 TBq, cobalt-60 source, in terms of percentage depth dose, beam profiles, output factor and shutter timing. Where applicable, the findings were verified against radiochromic EBT3 film and ionization chambers. Modern stereotactic radiation therapy modalities utilize small beams and large dose gradients to deliver radiation in few fractions, reducing the possibility to correct for mistakes during the treatment process. Therefore, in order to ensure best possible treatment for the patient, quality assurance for such treatments necessitates a stable, linear, and sensitive radiation detector with high spatial resolution and radiation hardness. We present a low-cost fabrication procedure for the production of nanoscale periodic GaAs nanopillar arrays, using the nanosphere lithography technique as a templating mechanism and the electrochemical metal assisted etch process (MacEtch). The room-temperature photoluminescence (PL) and Raman spectroscopic properties of the fabricated pillars are detailed, as are the structural properties (scanning electron microscopy) and fabrication process. From our PL measurements, we observe a singular GaAs emission at 1.43 eV with no indications of any blue or green emissions, but with a slight redshift due to porosity induced by the MacEtch process and characteristic of porous GaAs (p-GaAs).
