Performance Analysis Of Numerical Integration Methods In The Trajectory Tracking Application Of Redundant Robot Manipulators, Emre Sariyildiz, Hakan Temeltas

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A

Differential kinematic is one of the most important solution methods in robot kinematics. The main advantage of the differential kinematic method is that it can be easily implemented any kind of mechanisms. Also, an accurate and efficient kinematic based trajectory tracking application can be easily implemented by using this method. In differential kinematic method, we use Jacobian as a mapping operator in the velocity space. Inversion of Jacobian matrix transforms the desired trajectory velocities, which are the linear and angular velocities of the end effector, into the joint velocities. The joint velocities are required to be integrated to obtain the …

Robust And Intelligent Control Methods To Improve The Performance Of A Unified Power Flow Controller, C Benachaiba, Ahmed M. Haidar, M L. Doumbia

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A

The important factor disturbing the modern power systems today is load flow control. The Unified Power Flow Controller (UPFC) is an effective way for controlling the power flow and can provide damping capability during transient conditions. The UPFC is controlled conventionally using PI controller. This paper presents two robust controllers to improve the performance of the UPFC. The first is a RST controller based on the principle of pole placement and the second is an intelligent controller based on the principle of fuzzy logic optimized by Genetic Algorithm (GA).

During the past decade, the application of vacuum preloading for stabilising soft coastal clay and other low-lying estuarine soils has become popular in Australia. The cost-effectiveness is a major factor in most projects in view of the significantly reduced time for achieving a relatively high degree of consolidation. Due to an increase in trade activities at the Port of Brisbane, new facilities on Fisherman Islands at the mouth of the Brisbane River will be constructed on the new outer area (235 ha) adjacent to the existing port facilities via land reclamation. A vacuum assisted surcharge load and conventional surcharge scheme …

Novel TiO2(B)@carbon composite nanowires were simply prepared by a two-step hydrothermal process with subsequent heat treatment in argon. The nanostructures exhibit the unique feature of having TiO2(B) encapsulated inside and an amorphous carbon layer coating the outside. The unique core/shell structure and chemical composition is likely to lead to perfect performance in many applications. In this paper, the results of Li-ion battery testing are presented to demonstrate the superior cyclic performance and rate capability of the TiO2(B)@carbon nanowires. The composite nanowires exhibit a high reversible capacity of 560 mAh g−1 after 100 cycles …

In today’s challenging business environment, organisations not only need to continue to leverage their internal sources of competitive advantage but also should strive to harness synergies across the multiple supply chains that they are part of. However, this has to be achieved through effective collaboration between partner organisations. This paper contributes to the current scholarly discourse on this topic by the application of the “Agency Theory” to the issues around supply chain integration and collaboration, towards enhancing operational performance. The paper presents a classification of supply chain integration and collaboration, as well as a conceptual framework, for understanding and explaining …

In this paper, we report on our investigation into modelling and performance enhancement of a linear actuation system based on cantileveredtype conducting polymer actuators, which can operate in air and aqueous media. We have employed the model to predict the linear displacement and force output of the actuation system, and to determine the optimum values of the system design parameters. The linear actuation system is a five bar parallel mechanism, articulated with two polymer actuators. Kinematic and force analyses of the mechanism including numerical results are presented, and its payload handling ability was experimentally evaluated. The experimental results prove that …

Actions To Improve Coal Seam Gas Drainage Performance, Dennis Black, Najdat I. Aziz Jan 2011

Actions To Improve Coal Seam Gas Drainage Performance, Dennis Black, Najdat I. Aziz

Faculty of Engineering - Papers (Archive)

Coal seam gas drainage is affected by many factors which may be generally divided into two groups, geological factors and operational factors. Studies conducted in the Bulli seam found geological factors had a dominant impact on coal seam gas drainage while operational factors had a secondary impact, affecting the amount of optimum gas drainage performance achieved within the limitations imposed by the prevailing geological conditions. Various operational factors, which are controllable by the mine operator and which have a significant impact on gas drainage effectiveness, are presented and recommendations made to improve and optimise gas drainage performance.

Roadside Rest Area Wastewater Treatment System: Performance Evaluation And Improvement, Adam Kiss, Faisal I. Hai, Long Nghiem

Faculty of Engineering - Papers (Archive)

The performance of a decentralised sewage treatment plant located at a rest area servicing a major freeway was investigated. Long term monitoring and rigorous analyses undertaken in this study revealed several unique and challenging issues associated with such scarcely studied systems. Data collected over a six month period showed that the raw wastewater strength was well above typical household wastewater characteristics, with the average BOD5, COD, TOC, TN and TP values of 880, 4900, 350, 238 and 8 mg/L, respectively. The system performance was considerably lower than that expected of a typical wastewater treatment unit. Several shortcomings in …

Nickel oxide–polypyrrole (NiO–PPy) composites for lithium-ion batteries were prepared by a chemical polymerization method with sodium p-toluenesulfonate as the dopant, Triton-X as the surfactant, and FeCl3 as the oxidant. The new composite material was characterized by Raman spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, scanning electron microscopy, and field-emission scanning electron microscopy. Nanosize conducting PPy particles with a cauliflower-like morphology were uniformly coated onto the surface of the NiO powder. The electrochemical results were improved for the NiO–PPy composite compared with the pristine NiO. After 30 cycles, the capacities of the NiO and the NiO–PPy composite were about 119 and 436 mAh·g …
