Influence Of Temperature On The Gas Content Of Coal And Sorption Modelling, Lei Zhang, Najdat I. Aziz, Ting Ren, Zhongwei Wang

Faculty of Engineering - Papers (Archive)

n experimental study was undertaken to examine the sorption and desorption characteristics of coal at temperatures of 35 °C, 45 °C and 55 °C. The study focused on the effect of changes in temperature and coal particle sizes on gas sorption and desorption characteristics. The coal size used ranged from fragmented coals, 16 mm, 8 mm, 2.4 mm, powdered coal of 150 μm and 54 mm core samples. The samples were tested in pressure vessels, known as bombs, and charged with CO2 gas at different pressure levels up to a maximum of 4000 kPa. It was found that temperature was …

The Influence Of Copper Content Of Welding Wires On The Fume Formation Rates In Gas Metal Arc Welding Of Steel, N Bothma, B J. Monaghan, J Norrish Jan 2011

The Influence Of Copper Content Of Welding Wires On The Fume Formation Rates In Gas Metal Arc Welding Of Steel, N Bothma, B J. Monaghan, J Norrish

Faculty of Engineering - Papers (Archive)

Increases in Fume Formation Rates (FFR) of welding wires have been attributed to the fact that wires are copper coated. Instability during the welding process can have an influence on the FFR. The University of Wollongong has developed an auto control mechanism that will minimise the influence of the instability and this could be applied to more accurately determine the FFR of welding wires in the "drop-spray" mode of transfer.

Influence Of Coke Ash On Blast Furnace Hearth Behaviour, M W. Chapman, Robert J. Nightingale, B J. Monaghan Jan 2011

Influence Of Coke Ash On Blast Furnace Hearth Behaviour, M W. Chapman, Robert J. Nightingale, B J. Monaghan

Faculty of Engineering - Papers (Archive)

Abstract Liquid iron in the ironmaking blast furnace picks up more than half of its carbon while percolating through the packed coke bed in the deadman and hearth of the blast furnace thus the conditions within the hearth have a direct impact on liquid drainage and hot metal quality. Consequently, the rate of carbon dissolution into liquid iron, and the factors contributing to the movement of liquids through the coke bed must be understood. Investigations using quenched coke dissolution techniques have demonstrated that a mineral layer was formed between the liquid iron and the coke matrix as coke dissolves into …

Influence Of Antimony Trioxide Nanoparticle Doping On Superconductivity In Mgb2 Bulk, Yun Zhang, S X. Dou Jan 2011

Influence Of Antimony Trioxide Nanoparticle Doping On Superconductivity In Mgb2 Bulk, Yun Zhang, S X. Dou

Faculty of Engineering - Papers (Archive)

In this work, antimony trioxide (Sb2O3) has been doped into MgB2 samples to act as an additive. The doping level varies from 2.5 to 15 wt%. The effects of Sb2O3 addition on the lattice parameters, critical temperature (Tc), critical current density (Jc), and upper critical field (Hc2) have been investigated in detail. It has been found that Sb2O3 doping results in a small depression in Tc. The Jc value is 2.4 × 103 A·cm−2 for …

Bauschinger Effect In Microalloyed Steels: Part Ii. Influence Of Work Softening On Strength Development During Uoe Line-Pipe Forming, Andrii Kostryzhev, Martin Strangwood, Claire L. Davis Jan 2011

Bauschinger Effect In Microalloyed Steels: Part Ii. Influence Of Work Softening On Strength Development During Uoe Line-Pipe Forming, Andrii Kostryzhev, Martin Strangwood, Claire L. Davis

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A

The Bauschinger effect (a reduced yield stress at the start of reverse deformation following forward prestrain) is an important factor of strength development for cold metal forming technology. In steels, the magnitude of the Bauschinger effect depends on composition, through the presence of microalloy precipitates, and prior processing, through the size and distribution of the microalloy precipitates and the presence of retained work hardening. In this article, the parameters of the Bauschinger effect and work hardening (coefficient and exponent) in forward and reverse deformations were quantitatively related to the particle number density and dislocation density for two high-strength low-alloy (HSLA) …

Influence Of Angular Orientation Of The Embedded Highly Birefringent Fiber On Pmd Changes Under Axial Stress, Daniel Budaszewski, Piotr Lesiak, Robert Plaga, Ginu Rajan, Yuliya Semenova, Gerald Farrell, Anna Boczkowska, Andrzej Domanski, Tomasz Wolinski

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A

In the paper we present results of the research on polarization mode dispersion changes inside the polarimetric optical fiber sensors based on highly birefringent optical fibers embedded into composite materials with different angular orientations of the optical axes. Based on measurements made for different types of highly birefringent optical fiber sensors we have shown that strain sensitivities after lamination process are different in comparison to the data obtained before lamination. Our results indicate that polarization mode dispersion in side-hole highly birefringent fibers under axial stress strongly depends on fiber orientation in the composite material suggesting that orientation of the polarization …
