High Temperature Oxidation Kinetics Of Alumina Forming Steels For Petrochemical Processes, Kao Zoua Yang Dec 2023

High Temperature Oxidation Kinetics Of Alumina Forming Steels For Petrochemical Processes, Kao Zoua Yang

Theses and Dissertations

Petrochemical industries produce 14.33 million barrels of petroleum products a day and by 2023, are expected to produce over a trillion dollars in sales annually. Petroleum is the number one used fuel source and is the raw material used to produce a wide range of petrochemical products including ethylene which is the raw chemical precursors that is crucial to the polymer market. Ethylene is created by the process of cracking ethane and other hydrocarbons in steel reactors at high temperature and potentially oxidizing conditions. The cracking process produces a range of byproducts including a detrimental solid carbon, called coke, which …

Primary Creep In Astm A325 Bolts Under Simulated Fire Loading, Mohammad Matar Dec 2014

Primary Creep In Astm A325 Bolts Under Simulated Fire Loading, Mohammad Matar

Theses and Dissertations

At room temperature, small creep effects are present on steel structures. This is not the case at fire condition where the temperature is much higher than room temperature; in this case creep can be significant, and should be taken into consideration. Since fire hazard can happen in any building, creep effect must be taken into consideration when designing a building. Creep strain behaves as a function of time, temperature and stress. As the temperature increases, the creep strain increases. Similarly, the longer the temperature at a given stress on the structure, the more the creep strain present.

The smallest component …

Effect Of Relative Humidity In High Temperature Oxidation Of Ceria Nanoparticles Coating On 316l Austenitic Stainless Steel, Luis Giraldez Pizarro Aug 2013

Effect Of Relative Humidity In High Temperature Oxidation Of Ceria Nanoparticles Coating On 316l Austenitic Stainless Steel, Luis Giraldez Pizarro

Theses and Dissertations

A solution of 20 wt. % colloidal dispersion of Cerium Oxide (CeO2) in 2.5% of acetic acid, was used for depositing a coating film on an austenitic stainless steel 316L. Cerium compounds have been distinguished as potential corrosion inhibitors in coatings over several alloys. The oxidation behavior of the cerium oxide coating on 316L austenitic stainless steel alloy was evaluated in dry and humid environments, the weight changes (W/A) was monitored as a function of time using a custom built Thermogravimetrical Analysis (TGA) instrument at temperatures of 750C, 800C and 850C, and different relative humidity levels (0%, 10% and 20%) …
