Bullwhip Effect Of A Closed Leep Supply Chain With And Without Information Sharing Of Customer Demand, Jui-Hsin Hsu Dec 2020

Bullwhip Effect Of A Closed Leep Supply Chain With And Without Information Sharing Of Customer Demand, Jui-Hsin Hsu

Theses and Dissertations

In recent years, companies have become interested in a closed-loop supply chain that is concerned with the recovery pipeline. The expenses of a company can be influenced by large inventories and backlogs due to the bullwhip effect in the supply chain. Previous literature has shown that the bullwhip effect can be decreased by a reverse supply chain. This paper develops a closed-loop supply chain including seven echelons for recovery of end-of-life products. The model considers the order-up-to inventory policy and the exponential smoothing forecasting with a trend method in the system to assist in determining the ordering quantities. The best …

Three-Level Converters For Low Voltage Active Front End Motor Drives, Marzieh Karami May 2020

Three-Level Converters For Low Voltage Active Front End Motor Drives, Marzieh Karami

Theses and Dissertations

Electric drives with Active Front End (AFE) converters can provide benefits such as lower harmonic current injections to the grid, smaller size filters, lower THD values and cost saving for injection of power to the grid in brake situations. SiC-MOSFET based two-level converters can be a promising topology for Active Front End (AFE) application in electric drives. The possibility of high switching frequency will make the grid filters smaller. Grid filters are used for EMC and power quality issues. However, there are practical limitations for increasing the switching frequency such as dead time in the gating signals, sampling requirements, and …

Warranty Period And Product Price Optimization For Remanufactured Products, Yuxi Liu Dec 2015

Warranty Period And Product Price Optimization For Remanufactured Products, Yuxi Liu

Theses and Dissertations

This study considers a remanufactured electrical product under a tiered warranty policy. Warranty is key in ensuring a good manufacturer—consumer relationship. Manufacturers hope to minimize warranty costs while consumers believe that good warranty promises better product quality and reliability. This Thesis presents an optimal warranty period from the perspective of a manufacturer to maximize the total expected profits, while ensuring sustained consumer relation. We use real data from a local company with a global supply chain to provide a numerical example.

Coupled Electromagnetic And Thermal Analysis And Design Optimization Of Synchronous Electric Machines, Yi Wang Aug 2014

Coupled Electromagnetic And Thermal Analysis And Design Optimization Of Synchronous Electric Machines, Yi Wang

Theses and Dissertations

A new technique for coupling the electromagnetic, thermal, and air-flow analysis is proposed for electronically controlled synchronous machines. A computationally efficient finite element analysis (CE-FEA) technique is employed for the electromagnetic field analysis. An equivalent circuit network is used for thermal and air-flow analysis. An iterative algorithm, which exploits the fact that the type of machines studied have very low rotor losses and also a relatively reduced dependency of core losses with temperature and load, has been developed. The overall computational time is significantly reduced in comparison with the conventional coupling method, such that the new technique is highly suitable …

Techniques For Optimum Design Of Actively Controlled Structures Including Topological Considerations, Arjumand Ali Dec 2013

Techniques For Optimum Design Of Actively Controlled Structures Including Topological Considerations, Arjumand Ali

Theses and Dissertations

The design and performance of complex engineering systems often depends on several conflicting objectives which, in many cases, cannot be represented as a single measure of performance. This thesis presents a multi-objective formulation for a comprehensive treatment of the structural and topological considerations in the design of actively controlled structures.

The dissertation addresses three main problems. The first problem deals with optimum placement of actuators in actively controlled structures. The purpose of control is to reduce the vibrations when the structure is subjected to a disturbance. In order to mitigate the structural vibrations as quickly as possible, it is necessary …

Bi- And Multi Level Game Theoretic Approaches In Mechanical Design, Ehsan Ghotbi Aug 2013

Bi- And Multi Level Game Theoretic Approaches In Mechanical Design, Ehsan Ghotbi

Theses and Dissertations

This dissertation presents a game theoretic approach to solve bi and multi-level optimization problems arising in mechanical design. Toward this end, Stackelberg (leader-follower), Nash, as well as cooperative game formulations are considered. To solve these problems numerically, a sensitivity based approach is developed in this dissertation. Although game theoretic methods have been used by several authors for solving multi-objective problems, numerical methods and the applications of extensive games to engineering design problems are very limited. This dissertation tries to fill this gap by developing the possible scenarios for multi-objective problems and develops new numerical approaches for solving them.
