Validation Of Computational Model Of A Piezoelectric Flow Rate Sensor, Eben Roberto Escobedo
Validation Of Computational Model Of A Piezoelectric Flow Rate Sensor, Eben Roberto Escobedo
Open Access Theses & Dissertations
This study validates a computational simulation of a piezoelectric cantilever beam undergoing different loads by showing a comparison of its results against theoretical calculations. The objective of the computational model is to simulate the behavior of a beam made of a piezoelectric material which can be used as a flow rate sensor due to the ability of the material to convert a mechanical load into an electrical load. After validating the model, different geometries, material properties and loads can be simulated to observe the different behaviors and bring the possibility of selecting the most convenient options according to the needs …
Velocity Measurements Using A Piezoelectric Plate As A Sensor, Paul Perez
Velocity Measurements Using A Piezoelectric Plate As A Sensor, Paul Perez
Open Access Theses & Dissertations
In this study, the voltage output from a piezoelectric sensor placed in a test section is used to predict flow velocity changes. The piezoelectric made of PZT is thought to be advantageous due to its fast response time, potential durability at higher temperatures, and self-powered characteristics. Having said that this sensor could be implemented into the Hybrid Performance Project built by NETL to characterize and mitigate the probability of compressor surge and stall. The problem arises because of the added large volume between compressor and gas turbine and resultant changes to system fluid dynamics. The effect of the piezoelectric sensor …

Fabrication And Testing Of Cfrp Composites With Embedded Piezoelectric Particles For Temperature Sensing And Energy Harvesting, Emilio Tarango Valles
Fabrication And Testing Of Cfrp Composites With Embedded Piezoelectric Particles For Temperature Sensing And Energy Harvesting, Emilio Tarango Valles
Open Access Theses & Dissertations
As a part of this world's continuous evolution and technological advancements, smart materials and functional composites have become an attractive topic. In many cases, these new functional composites are replacing the traditional engineering material due to their customizable mechanical properties. This Thesis analyzes and demonstrates the signal response, sensing capabilities and structural properties from Carbon/Glass Fiber Reinforced Plastic Composites (CFRP) with embedded Lead Zirconate Titanate Particles (PZT). The added PZT particles function as actuators, giving the composites a functionality. The PZT quantity inside each composite was variated to study better and characterize the mechanical and electrical properties; the variations were …
Modeling And Characterization Of Piezoelectric Based Multifunctional Structures, Ricardo Martinez Hernandez
Modeling And Characterization Of Piezoelectric Based Multifunctional Structures, Ricardo Martinez Hernandez
Open Access Theses & Dissertations
Continuous monitoring of high pressure and high temperature in energy system applications has been a developing research area in today’s energy sector. Multifunctional materials have the potential to provide real-time monitoring of structures where temperature and pressure sensing is critical to its performance and efficiency. In this study, multifunctional materials are studied by embedding piezoelectric materials with two ongoing technologies, woven fabric composites and additive manufacturing (AM). The AM technology allows the flexibility of embedding a sensor within the structure, all while not compromising the mechanical performance requirements. The “smart parts” are fabricated modifying the standard additive manufacturing process, using …
