Impacts Of Contour Coal Mining On Streamflow, A Case Study Of The New River Watershed, Tennessee, Hong-Shoung Tung Aug 1975

Impacts Of Contour Coal Mining On Streamflow, A Case Study Of The New River Watershed, Tennessee, Hong-Shoung Tung

Doctoral Dissertations

In order to promote stripped coal as an economically and environmentally acceptable fuel source, it is essential to assess properly the societal (external) cost of extracting coal by strip mining. One of the elements contributing to the damage function associated with the societal costs on the production side of extracting coal by means of stripping, is the change impacted on the watershed hydrologic environment. One of the most important such watershed hydrologic changes in terms of the watershed response is peak flow due to its potential to cause serious damages.

The objective of this study is to determine the quantitative …

Simulation Of Alternative Airline Terminal Check-In Disciplines, Luis Alvero Lopez Aug 1975

Simulation Of Alternative Airline Terminal Check-In Disciplines, Luis Alvero Lopez

Masters Theses

Computer simulation has become a very useful and flexible tool in the planning process of passenger facilities. By this means the probability of queues, congestion and delays can be determined, and different design concepts and operational disciplines can be considered experimentally.

Within this thesis two different check-in disciplines, restricted flight system, and common system are compared. The stochastic simulation models developed to evaluate the performance of the alternative check-in systems examined the impact of 1) changes in the number of passengers boarding per flight, 2) reduction in the number of counters, and 3) different time value to the passengers. Input …

Correlation Of Theory And Experiment For The Dynamics Of A Pressurized Water Reactor, J. G. Thakkar Mar 1975

Correlation Of Theory And Experiment For The Dynamics Of A Pressurized Water Reactor, J. G. Thakkar

Masters Theses

Dynamic tests were performed on the Carolina Power and Light Company's H. B. Robinson Unit 2 to determine the frequency response of the PWR steam supply system. Step inputs and multi-frequency binary signals of various sequence lengths and bit durations were used. The signals were introduced manually by the operator both for reactivity perturbation and steam flow perturbation tests. The experimental results were analyzed on and IBM 360/65 computer. The test results were compared with theoretical results predicted by a mathematical model of the system.

A mathematical model for the H. B. Robinson system was formulated. In most cases, the …
