Computational Framework For Small Animal Spect Imaging: Simulation And Reconstruction, Sang Hyeb Lee May 2015

Computational Framework For Small Animal Spect Imaging: Simulation And Reconstruction, Sang Hyeb Lee

Doctoral Dissertations

Small animal Single Photon Emission Computed Tomography (SPECT) has been an invaluable asset in biomedical science since this non-invasive imaging technique allows the longitudinal studies of animal models of human diseases. However, the image degradation caused by non-stationary collimator-detector response and single photon emitting nature of SPECT makes it difficult to provide a quantitative measure of 3D radio-pharmaceutical distribution inside the patient. Moreover, this problem exacerbates when an intra-peritoneal X-ray contrast agent is injected into a mouse for low-energy radiotracers.

In this dissertation, we design and develop a complete computational framework for the entire SPECT scan procedure from the radio-pharmaceutical …

A Novel Imaging System For Automatic Real-Time 3d Patient-Specific Knee Model Reconstruction Using Ultrasound Rf Data, Rimon Adel Messiha Tadross May 2012

A Novel Imaging System For Automatic Real-Time 3d Patient-Specific Knee Model Reconstruction Using Ultrasound Rf Data, Rimon Adel Messiha Tadross

Doctoral Dissertations

This dissertation introduces a novel imaging method and system for automatic real-time 3D patient-specific knee model reconstruction using ultrasound RF data. The developed method uses ultrasound to transcutaneously digitize a point cloud representing the bone’s surface. This point cloud is then used to reconstruct 3D bone model using deformable models method.

In this work, three systems were developed for 3D knee bone model reconstruction using ultrasound RF data. The first system uses tracked single-element ultrasound transducer, and was experimented on 12 knee phantoms. An average reconstruction accuracy of 0.98 mm was obtained. The second system was developed using an ultrasound …

Hydrologic Reconstructions Using Dendroclimatology, Climate Signals, And Pacific Ocean Sea Surface Temperature Variability, Sallyrose Anderson May 2012

Hydrologic Reconstructions Using Dendroclimatology, Climate Signals, And Pacific Ocean Sea Surface Temperature Variability, Sallyrose Anderson

Doctoral Dissertations

The Colorado River provides water to over 25 million people. Given the importance of this water supply, it is critical to understand the hydrologic variables in the Colorado River Basin. In this dissertation, I reconstructed hydrologic conditions (soil moisture, snowpack) in the Upper Colorado River Basin (UCRB) and examined different factors that influence water supply in the region (climate oscillations, oceanic-atmospheric variability).

Firstly, I reconstructed soil moisture in the UCRB. Principal components analysis (PCA) and k-Nearest Neighbor (k-NN) techniques were used to regionalize the gridded data. Correlated tree-ring chronologies (TRCs) were used as predictor variables in stepwise linear regression (SLR) …
