Disaster Analysis Using Satellite Image Data With Knowledge Transfer And Semi-Supervised Learning Techniques, Palavi Jain Jan 2021

Disaster Analysis Using Satellite Image Data With Knowledge Transfer And Semi-Supervised Learning Techniques, Palavi Jain

Reports

With the increase in frequency of disasters and crisis situations like floods, earthquake and hurricanes, the requirement to handle the situation efficiently through disaster response and humanitarian relief has increased. Disasters are mostly unpredictable in nature with respect to their impact on people and property. Moreover, the dynamic and varied nature of disasters makes it difficult to predict their impact accurately for advanced preparation of responses [104]. It is also notable that the economical loss due to natural disasters has increased in recent years, and it, along with the pure humanitarian need, is one of the reasons to research innovative …

Adopting Problem Based Learning In Third Level Computer Science, Martin Mchugh Jan 2015

Adopting Problem Based Learning In Third Level Computer Science, Martin Mchugh

Reports

It has been recognised that the traditional teaching approach of the teacher being solely a transmitter and the student being a receiver is not sufficient. This is evident when a traditional style of teaching is compared to a more hands-on approach to learning. When discussing the traditional style of teaching, Earl and Ellington (1999, p.83) describe how in this approach to learning; (current) teaching methods are almost invariably of the ‘face-to-face’ type. The whole system is generally geared towards the smooth operation of the teaching institution, with little or no attempt being made to cater for the different learning styles …

Consider a bank which wishes to decide whether a credit applicant will obtain credit or not. The bank has to assess if the applicant will be able to redeem the credit. This is done by estimating the probability that the applicant will default prior to the maturity of the credit. To estimate this probability of default it is first necessary to identify criteria which separate the "good" from the "bad" creditors, such as loan amount and age or factors concerning the income of the applicant. The question then arises of how a bank identifies a sufficient number of selective criteria …

A Review Of Negation In Clinical Texts, John D. Kelleher, Brian Mac Namee Jan 2008

A Review Of Negation In Clinical Texts, John D. Kelleher, Brian Mac Namee

Reports

Negation is commonly seen in clinical documents [Chapman et al., 2001a] ”In clinical reports the presence of a term does not necessarily indicate the presence of the clinical condition represented by that term. In fact, many of the most frequently described findings and diseases in discharge summaries, radiology reports, history and physical exams, and other transcribed reports are denied in the patient” [Chapman et al., 2001b, page. 301].

Software Quality: Definitions And Strategic Issues, Ronan Fitzpatrick Jan 1996

Software Quality: Definitions And Strategic Issues, Ronan Fitzpatrick

Reports

This paper contains two sections relating to software quality issues. First, the various definitions of software quality are examined and an alternative suggested. It continues with a review of the quality model as defined by McCall, Richards and Walters in 1977 and mentions the later model of Boëhm published in 1978. Each of McCall's quality factors is reviewed and the extent to which they still apply in the late 1990s is commented on. The factors include, integrity, reliability, usability, accuracy, efficiency, maintainability, testability, flexibility, interface facility (interoperability), re-usability and transferability (portability). They are subdivided into external and internal quality factors. Interrelationships …
