This tutorial is an illustration of a stepwise procedure for resolving errors in calculated channel travel times that occur when processing watershed parameters in HEC-GeoHMS. Channel travel time errors occur when a GIS-defined channel slope value during preprocessing of the Digital Elevation Data (DEM) is zero or negative (Adalikwu, 2021). The tutorial is intended to assist a relatively experienced ArcMap user resolve channel travel time errors that are documented in the TR55 Worksheet. Particularly, this tutorial is useful if the Muskingum method is selected by the watershed modeler as the river routing method. The K parameter value in the Muskingum …

Biological treatment methods are the basis for waste water treatment worldwide. Among biological treatment systems, activated sludge processes are most widely used to remove the oxygen demand and nutrients from wastewater. The activated sludge process uses naturally occurring bacteria at high concentrations in tanks. The bacteria in the activated sludge process remove small molecules of organic carbon, nitrogen, and phosphate as a consequence of bacterial growth and the waste water is purified. The effluent can then be safely released to the environment. Respirometry techniques are an effective tool to measure the respiration of living organisms. These techniques are associated with …

From the Executive Summary:

The closed basins area, which includes parts of Day, Marshall, Roberts, Codington, and Clark Counties, in northeastern South Dakota, was declared a Federal Disaster Area in 1990. Under the sponsorship of Region 8 of the Federal Emergency management Agency, an interagency study team was formed to conduct an interdisciplinary scientific investigation of the flooding n the closed basins area. Agencies represented include Federal Emergency Management Agency, U.S. Geological Survey, U.S. Army Corp of Engineers, South Dakota State University, Natural Resources Conservation Service, South Dakota Department of Environment and Natural Resources, and the South Dakota Geological Survey. …
