Performance Analysis Of Weighted Encoding With Sparse Nonlocal Regularization And Spatially Adaptive Iterative Filtering Boost Denoising: A Review, Shivam Shukla, Vijayshri Chaurasia

Innovative Research Publications IRP India

In this paper, we compare the spatially adaptive iterative filtering (SAIF) approach with Weighted Encoding with Sparse Nonlocal Regularization (WESNR) to maintain the denoising strength locally for any spatial domain method. These approaches has ability of filtering local image content iteratively using the given base filter, and the type of iteration and the iteration number are automatically optimized with respect to estimated risk (i.e., mean squared error). Experimental result shows that approx. 7% enhancement in the SNR of SAIF method as compared to the WESNR method.

Fault Locating In Large Distribution Systems By Empirical Mode Decomposition And Core Vector Regression, Benyamin Khorramdel Mr., Hesamoddin Marzooghi Mr., Haidar Samet Dr., Meisam Pourahmadi-Nakhli Mr., Mahdi Raoofat Dr.

Hesamoddin Marzooghi

This paper proposes an intelligent fault locating method using a new signal analysis technique called Empirical Mode Decomposition (EMD) and Core Vector Regression (CVR) for large distribution systems. The conventional fault locators are based on the measurement of post-fault line impedance suffering from the factors such as path fault impedance, system configuration and line loading, so that they have low accuracy. On the other hand, because of the vast range of resistances, the negative impact of damping factors affects the performance of travelling wave-based fault locators in large distribution systems. To overcome these problems, this paper uses a minimum measuring …

Boundary Control Of Dual-Output Boost Converter Using State-Energy Plane, Saad Mekhilef May 2014

Boundary Control Of Dual-Output Boost Converter Using State-Energy Plane, Saad Mekhilef

Saad Mekhilef

A boundary control scheme for dual-output boost converter (DBC) with enhanced performance using second-order switching surface is presented in this study. The derivation of the switching surface is performed in state-energy plane rather than the state-plane to obtain a general geometrical representation that provides a good dynamic response during start-up and sudden load changes, achieving steady state in two switching actions. To illustrate the control characteristic and performance, a detailed mathematical analysis is fully developed and compared with other control methods for the DBC. The proposed control was simulated, implemented in a digital signal processor TMS320F2812, and tested using prototype …

Fault Identification For Transmission Lines Using Wavelet Transform, Almoataz Youssef Abdelaziz Apr 2014

Fault Identification For Transmission Lines Using Wavelet Transform, Almoataz Youssef Abdelaziz

Almoataz Youssef Abdelaziz

This paper presents an algorithm to determine the fault type on transmission line based on wavelet transformation analysis. The algorithm is developed by analyzing the three phase currents (Ia, Ib and Ic) using Wavelet Transformation, and then start to study the faulted phase(s) at different location (each 5% of the transmission line (TL) length). Fault simulation is carried out by EMTDC/PSCAD program. Two seconds window of waveform covering pre-fault and post-fault is used. The discrete wavelet transforms (DWTs) are used for data pre-processing. Four types of mother wavelet are used for signal processing to identify the effective wavelet family that …

Performance And Stability Assessment Of Future Grid Scenarios For The Australian Nem, Hesamoddin Marzooghi Mr., David J. Hill Prof., Gregor Verbic Dr. Jan 2014

Performance And Stability Assessment Of Future Grid Scenarios For The Australian Nem, Hesamoddin Marzooghi Mr., David J. Hill Prof., Gregor Verbic Dr.

Hesamoddin Marzooghi

Shifting towards higher penetration of diverse renewable energy sources (RESs) in power systems is motivated mainly by reducing carbon emissions. In the long term of several decades, which we refer to in terms of the future grid (FG), balancing between supply and demand will become more challenging. Also, displacing conventional generators with RESs, especially inverter-based and intermittent RESs, could have significant effects on performance and stability of FGs. So far, FG feasibility studies have mostly considered simple balancing, but largely neglected network related issues such as line overload and stability. The main contribution of this paper is to present a …

A Ripple Current Minimisation Based Single Phase Pwm Inverter, Khairy F. A. Sayed Dr

Khairy F. A. Sayed Dr

This paper is aimed at improving the output voltage waveform of a single phase PWM inverter. Two approaches is proposed, the first approach is based on selected harmonic elimination (SHE) of order up to 7th harmonic, for minimising harmonic distortion and modulating amplitude of the fundamental component of the output voltage waveform. For the first time, the Levenberg–Marquardt algorithm (LMA) is used for determining the switching angles of the inverter switches. The second approach is based on ripple current minimisation using LMA. A simulation model is developed using PSIM for the inverter to verify the proposed approaches. An experimental system …

New Three-Phase Multilevel Inverter With Reduced Number Of Power Electronic Components, Saad Mekhilef Dec 2013

New Three-Phase Multilevel Inverter With Reduced Number Of Power Electronic Components, Saad Mekhilef

Saad Mekhilef

In this paper, a new configuration of a three-phase five-level multilevel voltage-source inverter is introduced. The proposed topology constitutes the conventional three-phase two-level bridge with three bidirectional switches. A multilevel dc link using fixed dc voltage supply and cascaded half-bridge is connected in such a way that the proposed inverter outputs the required output voltage levels. The fundamental frequency staircase modulation technique is easily used to generate the appropriate switching gate signals. For the purpose of increasing the number of voltage levels with fewer number of power electronic components, the structure of the proposed inverter is extended and different methods …

Simulation Of Z-Source Inverter Using Maximum Boost Control Pwm Technique, Suresh L Aug 2013

Simulation Of Z-Source Inverter Using Maximum Boost Control Pwm Technique, Suresh L

suresh L

Z – source inverters have been recently proposed as an alternative power conversion concept as they have both voltage buck and boost capabilities. These inverters use a unique impedance network, coupled between the power source and converter circuit, to provide both voltage buck and boost properties, which cannot be achieved with conventional voltage source and current source inverters. To facilitate understanding of Z – source inverter, this paper presents a detailed analysis, showing design of impedance network, implementation of Maximum Boost control (MBC) PWM technique and simulation of Z – source inverter.

Direct Power Control Of Dfigs Based Wind Energy Generation Systems Under Distorted Grid Voltage Conditions, Emad Gameil Shehata E. G. Shehata

Emad Gameil Shehata E. G. Shehata

This paper presents an improved direct power control (DPC) strategy of a wind turbine driven doubly fed induction generators (DFIGs) connected to distorted grid voltage conditions. A coordinate control strategy of the grid side converter (GSC) and rotor side converter (RSC) of the DFIG is designed to improve the overall scheme performance. The RSC is controlled based on a DPC principle to eliminate the electromagnetic torque and stator reactive power oscillations. The total active and reactive power oscillations are compensated by the GSC control to achieve constant active and reactive powers from the overall DFIG system. A current control scheme …

Direct Power Control Of Wind-Turbine-Driven Dfig During Transient Grid Voltage Unbalance, Emad Gameil Shehata E. G. Shehata

Emad Gameil Shehata E. G. Shehata

In this paper, a direct power control (DPC) of a wind-turbine-driven doubly fed induction generators (DFIGs) under unbalanced network voltage conditions is studied. Variations of the stator output active, reactive and electromagnetic powers are fully deduced in the presence of negative sequence supply voltage. The rotor side converter is controlled on the basis of DPC to eliminate the electromagnetic torque oscillations at double supply frequency under unbalanced stator supply. The rotor voltage references estimation requires only simple calculations without any integral operation. The proposed control scheme removes rotor current regulators and the decomposition processing of positive and negative sequence rotor …

Effect Of Renewable Distributed Generators On The Fault Current Level Of The Power Distribution Systems, Hadi Zayandehroodi, Azah Mohamed, Hussain Shareef, Masoud Farhoodnea, Marjan Mohammadjafari

Dr. Hadi Zayandehroodi

The presence of renewable distributed generator (RDG) in a distribution system will have unfavorable impact on the operating system because the distribution system is no longer radial in nature and is not supplied by a single main power source. With RDGs in a distribution network, it brings about a change in the fault current level of the system and causes many problems in the protection system, such as false tripping of protective devices, protection blinding, an increase and decrease in short-circuit levels. This paper presents the effect of RDGs on the fault current level of the system. The operating protection …

A Novel Neural Network And Backtracking Based Protection Coordination Scheme For Distribution System With Distributed Generation, Hadi Zayandehroodi, Azah Mohamed, Hussain Shareef, Masoud Farhoodnea

Dr. Hadi Zayandehroodi

With the increased installation of renewable energy based distributed generations (DGs) in distribution systems, it brings about a change in the fault current level of the system and causes many problems in the current protection system. Hence, effective protection schemes are required to ensure safe and selective protection relay coordination in the power distribution system with DG units. In this paper, a novel adaptive protection scheme is proposed by integrating fault location with protection relay coordination strategies. An automated fault location method is developed using a two stage radial basis function neural network (RBFNN) in which the first RBFNN determines …
