Necessity of adaptation the Polish law in the field of the environment protection to the European Union law caused to adopt new criterions and methods of the air quality assessment. In the paper some differences between various computational models applied to the atmospheric dispersion modeling were presented. These models each other were compared as regards the expanse-time scale of computation, description way of the wind field and the frame of reference for the air particle moves. Particular attention was paid to the Gauss plume model that was a base for a modeling method of the pollutant levels in the air accepting in Poland as the reference methodology.
