This paper presents the results of the PM2.5 and PM10 mass concentration measurements in an urban air and results obtained from the additional chemical analysis concerning carbon and sulfur content of the collected dust samples. The work presents emission factors of main air pollutants for installations of ArcelorMittal Poland S.A. Unit in Krakow (Poland) in comparison with analogous characteristic emissions for iron and steel industry in West Europe. In the comparison four installations (to coke, sinter, pig iron and steel production) were taken into consideration. The emission rates from ArcelorMittal Poland S.A. In the paper some differences between various computational models applied to the atmospheric dispersion modeling were presented. The paper presents the history of the creation, management and liquidation of the protective zone around the Katowice Steelworks and Coke "Przyjaźń" (originally belonging to the "Katowice Steelworks") in Dąbrowa Górnicza (Poland). This zone was created in 1978 on the basis of the air quality impact assessment performed for the steelworks on the assumption steel production capacity of 9 million tons/year and planned production of coke at 3.3 million tons/year. Legislation changes in Poland concerning the protective zones (created around industrial plants particularly harmful to the environment) were presented in the paper. Conditions connected with forming, developing and partial elimination of the protective zone existing around the "Katowice" steelworks and the coke plant Przyjaźń in Dąbrowa Górnicza (Poland) since 1978 were characterized as well.

The paper presents the results of air quality impact assessment of Katowice Steelworks in Dąbrowa Górnicza (Poland) in the protective zone. On the basis of calculations, it was found that in terms of air pollution there is a reasonable possibility of complete elimination of existing protective zone around these industrial plants.

The paper presents a comprehensive analysis of the impact of continuous casting of steel technology on air pollutant emissions in one of the Polish steelworks - Huta Katowice S.A. in Dąbrowa Górnicza. Emission sources occurring in the production process and the levels of pollutant emissions into the air were described. Implementation of continuous casting of steel brought significant changes in the production cycle in steelworks and caused an increase in the efficiency of manufacture of products. Calculated environmental effects showed a significant reduction of all pollutant emissions in the whole plant.

The paper presents the results of an analysis of current pollutant emissions from "Katowice" Steelworks and Coke Plant "Przyjaźń" in the Dąbrowa Górnicza (Poland) and calculations of spreading of these pollutants in the atmosphere. The research have shown that there is a reasonable possibility of reducing the existing protective zone around these plants, which should significantly reduce the costs incurred for the purchase of the land and management of the zone area.

Road transport is an essential source of nitrogen oxides (NOx), carbon monoxide (CO) and reactive hydrocarbons (RHC) emissions to atmosphere. Quantity and chemical constitution of emitted substances and meteorological conditions determine the level of ozon (O3) concentration forming as a result of photochemical reactions. The method presented in the paper consists in designation of quantity and chemical constitution of substances emitted from mo-bile sources and special mathematical modeling of physical and chemical transformations that take place in the lowest atmospheric layer.

Assessment of the state of air pollution in the urban area is a difficult and complex task. The paper presents the results of a comprehensive assessment of air pollution in the city of Nowy Sącz (Poland). This involved determining the emissions of selected pollutants from various sources with their percentages of the total emission and immission on the area under consideration. As a result of measurement of concentrations of particulate matter and benzo(a)pyrene in several parts of the city were verified results of theoretical calculations and determined the size of the inflow of pollutants from outside the area in question.

The paper presents the implementation of air pollution monitoring in the province of Kielce (Poland), associated with verification of the location and the measuring range of points to measure the concentrations of air pollutants. For this purpose were used calculations of the pollutants dispersion and statistical analysis of measurement results obtained on existing measuring stations. In the statistical calculations were used analysis of variance homogeneity, based on Cochran, Bartlett and Hartley tests.
