The Influence Of Silt On The Compressibility Of An Illitic Clay, James Inman Spencer

"This study was undertaken to investigate the effect of varying amounts of clay (illite) on the compressibility of a silt as it may be found in nature in a normally consolidated deposition. Laboratory procedure was designed to minimize sample disturbance so as to obtain, as nearly as possible, a virgin consolidation curve. By varying the amounts of silt and clay in a given sample, and sedimenting the sample from a soil-water suspension, consolidation test analyses were used for a comparison of the various samples.
