Wine Sampler, Lance L. Litten
Wine Sampler, Lance L. Litten
Computer Engineering
Quality testing is an important part of the wine industry. Without proper quality control, thousands of dollars could be wasted on bottling and recalling hundreds of gallons of wine. Due to this, labs are set up that collect wine samples from the tanks in a wine production plant and test them. A big part of this testing is determining exactly what tanks need to be tested and what tanks are at risk. My project aims to help automate this task by collecting data from the tanks wirelessly and keeping track of simple indicators such as pH and temperature. Automating this …

Creation And Analysis Of Checklists To Improve Raquet Stringing Performance In Tennis Warehouse, Alston S. Nguyen
Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering
Tennis Warehouse has a need to increase the supply of strung racquets and man hours to complete these strung racquets over the course of a year. That is, the demand can be increased by up to 4 times its average load during certain hectic parts of the year (professional tournaments, holidays, and competitive seasons). Not meeting this demand can lead to upset customers, unnecessary waste and replacing of rushed items and shipping costs, and a discouraged customer service representative workforce. The objective of this project is to use a set of checklists to address this problem and attempt to increase …
Cost Effective Analysis Of Big Data, Steven J. Litzsinger, Nehad Dababo
Cost Effective Analysis Of Big Data, Steven J. Litzsinger, Nehad Dababo
Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering
Executive Summary
Big data is everywhere and businesses that can access and analyze it have a huge advantage over those who can’t. One option for leveraging big data to make more informed decisions is to hire a big data consulting company to take over the entire project. This method requires the least effort, but is also the least cost effective. The problem is that the know-how for starting a big data project is not commonly known and the consulting alternative is not very cost effective. This creates the need for a cost effective approach that businesses can use to start …
Analysis Of 3d Printer Schedule, Colin B. Mclane
Analysis Of 3d Printer Schedule, Colin B. Mclane
Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering
With recent innovations in technology, 3D printing has become a rapidly expanding manufacturing method that is being used for a wide range of applications. Their ability to build parts layer by layer instead of cutting away initial material allows this method to have almost no wasted material, creating the potential for a much more efficient, cost effective process. In order to continue the growth of this manufacturing strategy, the performance of 3D printers need to be enhanced to ensure equal or higher quality of produced parts in comparison to other manufacturing methods that are more commonly used. One important part …

Fire Analysis Of The Walter F. Dexter Building- Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, Jeff Jenkins
Fire Protection Engineering: Culminating Experience Project Reports
The purpose of this report is to provide a fire analysis of the Walter F. Dexter Building on the California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo Campus. The report will detail egress analysis, notification systems, and building construction in a prescriptive approach. The report will also include a performance based analysis of the building with a designed fire scenario. This performance based analysis will show that in one of the most likely fire scenarios for the building, there is still ample time for the occupants to escape safely.
Fire And Life Safety Report- Agricultural Sciences Building- Cal Poly, Jonathan Schram
Fire And Life Safety Report- Agricultural Sciences Building- Cal Poly, Jonathan Schram
Fire Protection Engineering: Culminating Experience Project Reports
The purpose of this fire and life safety analysis is to provide a conclusion on whether the Agricultural Sciences Building (ASB) meets fire safety goals. The primary fire safety goal is to provide building occupants a safe environment during fire conditions. This goal can be achieved by protecting the occupants not intimate with the initial fire development and improving survivability of those occupants intimate with the initial fire development. A prescriptive-based design approach and a performance-based design approach are used to evaluate building safety. The prescriptive-based approach is used to evaluate the building's structural fire protection systems, fire detection and …

School Van Access In Nepal, Edgar Corona, Humberto Maldonado, Josh Schiesl
Mechanical Engineering
A need has been identified by a school in Nepal intended for children with Cerebral Palsy, called Sathi Sansar, to develop a more effective solution to loading and unloading students onto the school’s Toyota HiAce van. Currently, a combination of the driver, parents and teachers manually help the students on and off the van. However, this task has proven to be both laborious and time consuming for all parties involved. A solution to this problem needs to be designed and one is currently being developed by a team of engineering students from California Polytechnic State University-San Luis Obispo and Katmandu …

Microgrid Power Quality Analysis, Nikolai Kempcatala, Daniel Pleau, Scott Clemons
Electrical Engineering
The microgrid power quality analysis senior project addresses power quality assessment. Our senior project uses the PowerSight 3000 power measurement tool to record and analyze various electrical measurements including voltage, current, power, power factor, harmonics and AC frequency.
Our project will analyze power quality issues that result from switching from the utility grid to a smart grid run on primarily photovoltaic distributed generation. In the event of a utility failure, the smart grid can serve as an isolated grid for the system, this is called islanded mode. Our project assesses the reliability of operation in islanded mode. Our analysis should …
