Addition Of An Internship Prep Course To The Cm Curriculum, Zachary C. Boyle

Construction Management

The Cal Poly Construction Management program does an amazing job giving students opportunities to receive summer internships. Just about every student in the CM program will have some form of summer internship during their time at Cal Poly. All CM classes are designed to prepare students for internships. That being said, there is no specific class within the CM curriculum that is 100% Internship focused. Allowing students an opportunity to take a course that would focus on preparing them for their summer internships, students will be more confident and better equipped to take on the tasks of an intern at …

Researching The Impact Of Cal Poly Classes On Computing Students Perceptions Of Computer Ethics And Social Responsibility, Annie Joss

Computer Engineering

The importance and impact of socio-technical systems are playing an increasing role in the education of computing students. Discussion of ethics and social responsibility has always been a tenant of computer science education; however, research has shown engineering and computer science students lose focus on these values over their engineering education. Cal Poly computing departments have taken steps to emphasize social responsibility and ethics through required and suggested courses. This project focuses on examining the values and beliefs of Cal Poly computing students, who were surveyed over Winter and Spring Quarters in 2022. This project is inspired by Dr. Cech’s …

Exploring Student Feedback In Order To Help Build An International Summer Program, Gillian Mcafee

Construction Management

Studying abroad presents students with the opportunity to acquire and develop a diverse range of employability and life skills. Exposure to diverse cultures introduces you to innovative ideas and ways of thinking that you might not have thought of otherwise. International travel is extremely beneficial to those working in the construction industry as they can study foreign business practices, architectural styles, and intercultural communication. This project …

Investigating Student Interest In The Addition Of A Construction Law Topics Course, Flint D. Merrill-Gehrke

Construction Management

In the Construction Management program, our goal is to prepare for the responsibilities imposed upon us during a construction project. A major responsibility among these is navigating the complex legal relationships inherent to a construction project. While Cal Poly offers one Construction Law course, students are underprepared for what they will face. This project is designed to gauge interest from the Cal Poly Construction Management student body in the addition of a Construction Law topics course. It also aims to understand if additional legal studies would better prepare students for their entrance into the industry. Students were asked to answer …

Introduction To A Demolition Topics Course, Scott Martin

Construction Management

The California Polytechnic State University (Cal Poly) Construction Management (CM) program was created to allow graduates the opportunity to work effectively in practically every part of the construction industry. The curriculum covers a wide range of topics and prepares students with the ability to join various projects, such as residential, commercial, and heavy civil projects. What these projects all have in common, a topic almost entirely ignored at Cal Poly but nonetheless very important and relevant, is demolition in the construction industry. By offering a course focused entirely on the demolition process, principles, and safety, students will be better prepared …
