Wireless sensor networks have become a rapidly growing research field in recent years. They are envisioned to have a wide range of applications in military, environmental and many other fields. We examine the performance of wireless sensor network applications to aeronautical telemetry. To date, test ranges have relied on a single telemetry ground station for the reception of packets from all air borne transmitters. We researched an alternate means of achieving this same goal with fewer resources. Fully compliant bistable mechanisms have been proposed to be used as threshold accelerometers. The advantages to using these devices are that they require no external power to operate and maintain their sensing state. Using this characteristic the devices can be integrated with passive radio frequency identification tags (RFID). This allows for the sensing package to lay dormant with no maintenance needed until the sensor is read by the RFID reader. Commercial Off The Shelf (COTS) hardware has the advantages of low cost, modularity, and is easily upgraded. For Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) space-time algorithms to be practical they must have the processing capability to execute in real-time. This makes COTS ideal for real-time MIMO research where the processing power increases exponentially with a linear increase in antennas. The BYU Electrical Engineering wireless lab has designed and built an eight processor transmitter and a twenty processor receiver to research and develop MIMO wireless communication. The framework for a permanently implantable wireless compliance sensor was developed and validated using laboratory experiments. The proposed sensor would measure the intracranial pressure and fluid volume in the brain and return this information to a monitoring device. The designed sensor received power remotely from the monitoring device negating the need for an implanted power source. Impedance measurement estimation techniques were suggested, studied and applied to the compliance sensing system. A new impedance measurement technique, accounting for multiple variability in the domain, was developed. An extensive simulation environment was designed and used to develop the laboratory experiments and hardware. The …

IEEE 802.11 wireless networking equipment has made it possible to bridge the last mile for new broadband internet service providers. Inexpensive wireless networking equipment and high gain antennas enable high speed internet delivery at a fraction of the cost of installing or upgrading land lines for cable or DSL services. Based on this research, a guide of general practices and procedures is proposed for designing, installing, and maintaining a reliable wireless community area network. Many capacity and near-capacity achieving methods in multiple-input-multipleoutput (MIMO) wireless channels make use of the singular value decomposition (SVD) of the channel matrix. For the multi-user case, the SVD of the channel matrix for each user may result in right and left singular vectors that are similar between users. This proposes another descriptive characterization of the multi-user MIMO channel. Closely aligned singular vectors between any two users could reduce the achievable signaling rates of signal processing communication methods as one user would be more difficult to resolve in space-time from another. The statistics of the amplitude, time and angle of arrival of multipaths in an indoor environment are all necessary components of multipath models used to simulate the performance of spatial diversity in receive antenna configurations. The model presented by Saleh and Valenzuela, was added to by Spencer et. al., and included all three of these parameters for a 7 GHz channel. A system was built to measure these multipath parameters at 2.4 GHz for multiple locations in an indoor environment. Another system was built to measure the angle of transmission for a 6 GHz channel.
