Comparison Of Alkali-Silica Chemical Reaction Of Reactive Glass And Chert Aggregate, Yuka Morinaga, Elakneswaran Yogarajah, Toyoharu Nawa, Lalita Yongchaitrakul, Eiji Iwatsuki

International Conference on Durability of Concrete Structures

Alkali silica reaction (ASR) is one of the most important factors of deterioration of Concrete. However, there are a lot of unknown points about ASR such as mechanism of ASR and pessimum effect. We investigate to the mechanism of Alkali silica chemical reaction by using two different aggregates, early type expanded aggregate and delayed type expanded aggregate. Experiments were used to investigate ASR by reaction between reactive silica and alkali ions with or without calcium ions. Two phases of reacted samples (liquid and solid) are presented. In the absence of calcium hydroxide (CH), reactive materials with specified sizes (Yorochert, and …

Effects Of Electro-Osmotic Consolidation Of Clays And Its Improvement Using Ion Exchange Membranes, Lucas Martin Aug 2019

Effects Of Electro-Osmotic Consolidation Of Clays And Its Improvement Using Ion Exchange Membranes, Lucas Martin

Dissertations

Electro-osmosis is an established method of expediting consolidation of soft, saturated clayey soils compared to commonly used methods, such as preloading with wick drains. In electro-osmotic consolidation a direct current (DC) is applied via inserted electrodes. This causes hydrated ions in the interstitial fluid to migrate to oppositely charged electrodes. Because the clay particles have a negative surface charge, the majority of ions in the interstitial fluid are positively charged. Therefore, the net flow will be towards the negatively charged electrode (cathode), where the water can be removed and thus consolidation is achieved. Certain problems, such as pH changes in …

Elimination Of Empirical, Ineffective And Expensive Pg Plus Tests To Characterize Modified Binders, Zahid Hossain, Ashraf Elsayed, Mm Tariq Morshed, Mohammad Hassan Aug 2019

Elimination Of Empirical, Ineffective And Expensive Pg Plus Tests To Characterize Modified Binders, Zahid Hossain, Ashraf Elsayed, Mm Tariq Morshed, Mohammad Hassan

Publications

For characterizing the polymer modified binders, different state Departments of Transportation (DOTs) use different time consuming and empirical Performance Grade (PG) Plus test methods. Furthermore, the PG Plus tests are silent when asphalt binders are modified with chemicals such as polyphosphoric acid (PPA). But, the effects of the elastomeric or plastomeric polymer are not accurately identified through these conventional tests such as Elastic Recovery (ER) and tenacity. Thus, the main research goal of this study is to recommend alternative test method(s), which can possibly be pursued by using a commonly available device, a Dynamic Shear Rheometer (DSR). Three PG binders …

The Cod Reduction In The Effluent Oil Industry, R.M. Usmanov, D.J. Jumaeva, I.D. Eshmatov, F.N. Agzamova, S.R. Shamuratova Apr 2019

The Cod Reduction In The Effluent Oil Industry, R.M. Usmanov, D.J. Jumaeva, I.D. Eshmatov, F.N. Agzamova, S.R. Shamuratova

Chemical Technology, Control and Management

In the oil and fat enterprises in the course of technological processes use a large amount of water, which in the form of wastewater is discharged into the sewer system, rivers, etc.The composition of wastewater oil and fat production contains oils, fatty acids, alkali, soap, mineral acids and other impurities. Purification of such complex composition of water requires the use of special methods of purification from impurities, as suspended solids, COD, BOD, pH and other indicators do not correspond to the level of the MPC. The article discusses the method and reduces the level of COD and the complex composition …

Short Beam Shear Strength Evaluations Of Gfrp Composites: Correlations Through Accelerated And Natural Aging, William Todd Barker Jan 2019

Short Beam Shear Strength Evaluations Of Gfrp Composites: Correlations Through Accelerated And Natural Aging, William Todd Barker

Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports

Fiber Reinforced Polymers (FRP) composites have been materials of interest in replacing or reinforcing steel, wood, and concrete, but lack of understanding of degradation under physical and chemical aging is a main concern. Through many years of research, the understanding of aging or durability of GFRPs has improved. To be able to evaluate aging related degradation rates, an accelerated aging methodology under varying environments is introduced. Accelerated aging is a concept used to age composites in a lab controlled environment under varying pH conditions (2 to 13) and temperatures (~ -20° to +160°F). Once acceleratedly aged testing is completed, Arrhenius …

Seguimiento De La Concentración De Cloro Residual En Tanque De Almacenamiento, Red De Distribución Y Tanques Residenciales En El Municipio De Fortul, Departamento De Arauca, Niray Andrés Enciso Jauregui
