An overall result of this collaboration between the Mechanical Engineering Dept. and the Purdue University Libraries (PUL) should result in building a big data framework that make have knowledge transfer for similar large scale geospatial data implementations. Such may promote best practices of data management where the library skill sets may aid faculty research and student learning. Here, the PUL is concerned with advancing the Mechanical Engineering‘s STEM pipeline capacity with this type of research, collaboration and data management engagement.

This joint collaboration between the library, the Mechanical Engineering department shows the current research of localizing an Android smartphone using big data collection and sensor fusion techniques. The original work is Autonomous Indoor Localization via Field Mapping Techniques which primarily designed as indoor fire and safety aid.
For Agricultural Big Data Use, the Android smartphone is being applied to in indoor greenhouse fire, safety and data knowledge design. Such may aid big data tool value to greenhouse fire and safety design and any data that may be important fieldwork considerations.
The indoor agricultural mapping application may be application to greenhouses …

Oxygen is used in a variety of chemical processes and for medical purposes throughout the world. Pressure swing adsorption (PSA) has become a viable alternative to cryogenic distillation for the separation of oxygen from air with the development of advanced adsorbents like zeolites. PSA processes are inherently complex because it is a dynamic process. Efficient operation of a PSA process is necessary in order to utilize the capacity of the adsorbent as much as possible and reduce the power requirements of the process. In this thesis, a novel zeolite adsorbent was utilized in a PSA process for oxygen generation with the …

A Cross-Case Analysis Of Disciplinary Identities Communicated Through Design Reviews, Senay Purzer, Nicholas D. Fila, Emily C. Dick
Design Thinking Research Symposium
In post-secondary educational settings, discourse is a mechanism by which students develop occupational identities as they engage in a particular community that communicates attributes of their prospective profession. This study focuses on revealing disciplinary identities and how they are conveyed and negotiated during interactions between design students and project reviewers. We draw upon Gee’s identity framework and focus on the enactments of disciplinary identity in three different disciplinary settings: choreography, industrial design, and mechanical engineering. A cross-case analysis indicated differences that were epistemological (e.g., subjectivity of reviews) and similarities in ways instructors modeled institutional identities. The results have implications for …
