A Framework For An Implantable Wireless Pressure And Volume Sensor Focusing On The Diagnosis And Treatment Of Shunt Failure In Hydrocephalus Patients, Donald Monte Wichern

Theses and Dissertations

The framework for a permanently implantable wireless compliance sensor was developed and validated using laboratory experiments. The proposed sensor would measure the intracranial pressure and fluid volume in the brain and return this information to a monitoring device. The designed sensor received power remotely from the monitoring device negating the need for an implanted power source. Impedance measurement estimation techniques were suggested, studied and applied to the compliance sensing system. A new impedance measurement technique, accounting for multiple variability in the domain, was developed. An extensive simulation environment was designed and used to develop the laboratory experiments and hardware. The …

Biomems Wireless Pressure Sensor, Daniel V. Pearce Jan 2006

Biomems Wireless Pressure Sensor, Daniel V. Pearce

Journal of the Microelectronic Engineering Conference

A design and manufacture of a wireless pressure sensor was proposed as a future tool for use in biological monitoring. This device is designed to acquire pressure changes through a change in capacitance. This is accomplished using a large circular parallel plate capacitor separated by a micron of air. The upper and lower plates are connected together via a large planar inductor on the opposite end of the device. The inductor and capacitor in a parallel form a resonant circuit with resonant frequency equal to one over the square root of inductance times capacitance. The resonant frequency can be dependent …

A Third-Order Differential Steering Robot And Trajectory Generation In The Presence Of Moving Obstacles, Vatana An Jan 2006

A Third-Order Differential Steering Robot And Trajectory Generation In The Presence Of Moving Obstacles, Vatana An

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

In this thesis, four robots will be used to implement a collision-free trajectory planning/replanning algorithm. The existence of a chained form transformation so that the robot's model can be control in canonical form will be analyzed and proved. A trajectory generation for obstacles avoidance will be derived, simulated, and implemented. A specific PC based control algorithm will be developed. Chapter two describes two wheels differential drive robot modeling and existence of controllable canonical chained form. Chapter 3 describes criterion for avoiding dynamic objects, a feasible collision-free trajectory parameterization, and solution to steering velocity. Chapter 4 describes robot implementation, pc wireless …

Using Rfid And Bluetooth For Localised Interaction With Wireless Embedded Internet Devices, Matthew D'Souza, Montserrat Ros, Adam Postula

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A

Interaction with embedded devices can take on many forms. This paper describes the implementation of an interactive information network and intuitive mechanisms for the personal or home environment using Bluetooth wireless communication and Radio Frequency ID (RFID) tag technology. This approach combines the freedom associated with wireless communication and the ability to detect user commands by RFID location information. Embedded Access Points are described along with intuitive mechanisms including digital pen/paper, interactive information board and mobile computing devices. Specifically, the web access point facilitated an Internet over Bluetooth link and was found to provide an average data rate of 15.97kbps. …
