Remote Magneto-Elastic Analyte, Viscosity And Temperature Sensing Apparatus And Associated Methods Of Sensing, Craig A. Grimes, Plamen G. Stoyanov

Chemical and Materials Engineering Faculty Patents

An analyte, viscosity, or temperature sensing apparatus for operative arrangement within a time-varying magnetic field, including a sensor with an outer surface that is chemically, frictionally, or thermally responsive and adhered to a base magnetostrictive element, and a receiver to measure a first and second value for magneto-elastic emission intensity of the sensor taken at, respectively, a first and second interrogation frequency. A change in mass or a change in material stiffness of the sensor due to the responsiveness, the viscosity and mass density of a fluid therearound, or the temperature, can be identified. The receiver, alternatively, measures a plurality …

Effects Of 0.25 % Mo (Molybdenum) Which Is Contained In The Ductile Cast Iron On Mechanical Properties Of Austempered Ductile Iron (Adi)., Nukman Nukman, Bustanul Arifin, Bambang Sugiarto Apr 2002

Effects Of 0.25 % Mo (Molybdenum) Which Is Contained In The Ductile Cast Iron On Mechanical Properties Of Austempered Ductile Iron (Adi)., Nukman Nukman, Bustanul Arifin, Bambang Sugiarto

Makara Journal of Technology

The aim of this research is to investigate the effects of 0.25 % Mo (Molybdenum) which is contained in the ductile cast iron on mechanical properties of Austempered Ductile Iron (ADI). The various temperatures and the holding times are used in the heat treatment processes. Using a given 0.25 % Mo in the ductile iron, ADI's alloyed developes a higher ultimate tensile stress value and decreases the elongation if we compare with the as cast (non alloy ductile iron). The higher impact energy value obtained at 9000 C austenization and 375o C austempering temperatures during 60 minutes holding times. The …

Mtd Method For Better Prediction Of Sea Surface Temperature, Velappa Ganapathy, K Meena, Kashem M. Muttaqi Jan 2002

Mtd Method For Better Prediction Of Sea Surface Temperature, Velappa Ganapathy, K Meena, Kashem M. Muttaqi

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A

A class of incremental learning procedures known as the Modified Temporal Difference (MTD) method is introduced in this paper for fixed-step prediction problems which uses the functional features of Multilayer Perceptron. The method is applied for weekly prediction of the Sea Surface Temperature (SST) from oceanographic data. Temporal Difference (TD) methods suggest how each output of a temporal sequence must be changed, whereas a back-propagation algorithm decides which part(s) of a network to change in order to influence its output and reduce the overall error. In other words, TD methods and back-propagation address temporal credit and structural credit assignment issues, …

Development Of A Program For Numerical Analysis Of Microwave Radio Links Under Different Conditions, M. Can, Sergey Kharkovsky Jan 2002

Development Of A Program For Numerical Analysis Of Microwave Radio Links Under Different Conditions, M. Can, Sergey Kharkovsky

Electrical and Computer Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works

Numerical analysis of system power budget is performed for radio link design and transmission planning purposes in cellular networks. The behavior of three different frequencies; 10.5 GHz, 23 GHz and 38 GHz is examined under the influence of such parameters like transmitter power output level, rain rate, fog density, distance, polarization type, antenna radius, temperature, foliage depth and etc. Received power levels are measured, calculated and reported for different radio link types and environmental conditions. A new program is developed in order to carry out system power budget analysis and design better microwave radio links. Measured and calculated values are …

Fecal Coliform Concentration In Surface Runoff From Pastures With Applied Dairy Manure, Alyson Kristine Bertges Hubbs Jan 2002

Fecal Coliform Concentration In Surface Runoff From Pastures With Applied Dairy Manure, Alyson Kristine Bertges Hubbs

LSU Master's Theses

This study examined the magnitude of release of fecal coliform indicator bacteria in surface runoff from pasture amended with dairy manure. The experiment was conducted at Southeast Research Station in Franklinton, Louisiana between March and June, 2001. The experiment was designed to compare the effects of two methods of manure application on fecal coliform release. Manure application simulating natural deposition by cattle (Treatment A) was compared to that of land application of manure as fertilizer (Treatment B). Application of inorganic fertilizer was used as the control. Each Treatment was applied to three field plots. Simulated rainfalls were conducted on plots …
