Genetic Type And Gas-Generating Potential Of Coalbed Methane In The Bayanhua Sag, Erlian Basin, Meng Qin, Li Ling, Li Jie, Tian Wenguang, Lin Haitao, Li Heng

Coal Geology & Exploration

The Bayanhua Sag in the Erlian Basin is a critical experimental area for coalbed methane (CBM) development from low-rank coals in Inner Mongolia. However, the relatively low exploration level and the limited understanding of the CBM origin in the sag restrict the CBM exploration and development to some extent. This study tested the gas components, stable isotopes and hydrochemistry of the gas and water samples from CBM wells in the Bayanhua Sag. It also conducted radioisotopic dating for these samples. By combining the classic charts for the identification of natural gas origin, this study clarified the gas origins, further analyzed …

Closure Trajectory Model Of Pressure-Preserved Controller For Coring In Coal Seam Surface Well, Guo Da, Zhang Yiwei, Wang Dingming, Fang Xin, Yang Bengao, Guo Lihua, Hou Lele, Zhao Xiang Aug 2023

Closure Trajectory Model Of Pressure-Preserved Controller For Coring In Coal Seam Surface Well, Guo Da, Zhang Yiwei, Wang Dingming, Fang Xin, Yang Bengao, Guo Lihua, Hou Lele, Zhao Xiang

Coal Geology & Exploration

The traditional method of coal exploration is to obtain coal samples using an open coring tool and estimate the gas loss through theoretical calculations. However, the measured gas content of these coal samples is generally low, significantly impeding the development and utilization of coalbed methane and compromising the safety of coal mining operations. To meet the demands of deep coal exploration, an innovative pressure-preserved coring tool was specifically designed for the coal seam surface wells. This tool has a total length of 6.7 m and can extract a 3 m long pressure-preserved coal core sample at a single time. In …

Fractal Theory-Based Permeability Model Of Fracture Networks In Coals, Xia Binwei, Liao Chuanbin, Luo Yafei, Ji Kainan Aug 2023

Fractal Theory-Based Permeability Model Of Fracture Networks In Coals, Xia Binwei, Liao Chuanbin, Luo Yafei, Ji Kainan

Coal Geology & Exploration

Fractures in coal reservoirs, which act as the major seepage pathways for coalbed methane (CBM), determine the permeability and CBM productivity of coal reservoirs. Research on the relationships between fracture structures and reservoir permeability is of great theoretical and practical significance for the accurate prediction of CBM productivity. Based on the classical cubic law-based permeability model, as well as the fractal theory, fracture network structures, and effective stress, this study built a permeability model containing complex bending fractures, which was then combined with the S & D (Shi-Durucan) model to build the permeability model of fractured coals under the action …

An Experimental Study On Factors Controlling The Proppant Transport In Hydraulic Fractures Of Coal Reservoirs, Su Xianbo, Fan Jian, Wang Ran, Wang Lufei, Zhao Fengzhen, Wang Qian Jun 2023

An Experimental Study On Factors Controlling The Proppant Transport In Hydraulic Fractures Of Coal Reservoirs, Su Xianbo, Fan Jian, Wang Ran, Wang Lufei, Zhao Fengzhen, Wang Qian

Coal Geology & Exploration

Effectively propping open hydraulic fractures in coal reservoirs plays an important role in ensuring the efficient production of coalbed methane (CBM). This study investigated the effects of fracture morphology and the volume, injection rate, and properties of fracturing fluids on proppant transport in fractures through visualized experiments. The results are as follows: (1) Proppants showed a relatively homogeneous distribution in simple fractures with a constant aperture. In contrast, they form room-and-pillar props composed of proppant pillars and proppant-free rooms in local simple fractures with varying apertures and reticular fractures due to the effects of the varying flow rates of fracturing …

Recharge Water Types Of Coalbed Methane Wells: Controlling Effects On Water Yield And Countermeasures, Du Fengfeng, Ni Xiaoming, Zhang Yafei, Liu Yuru, Wang Wensheng Jun 2023

Recharge Water Types Of Coalbed Methane Wells: Controlling Effects On Water Yield And Countermeasures, Du Fengfeng, Ni Xiaoming, Zhang Yafei, Liu Yuru, Wang Wensheng

Coal Geology & Exploration

External water recharge of coalbed methane (CBM) wells leads to high water yield, thus affecting effective pressure propagation within coal seams and ultimately impacting gas production. This study aims to ascertain the influence of different types of recharge water on the water yield of CBM wells, as well as the characteristics of water yield and gas production of these wells under different recharge water types. Based on the exploration and development data of 25 CBM wells in the Shouyang block, this study presented general methods for obtaining the parameters for recharge water type classification and proposed the stepped method for …

Experimental Study On Co2-Enhanced Coalbed Methane Production And Its Simultaneous Storage, Su Xianbo, Huang Jin, Wang Qian, Yu Shiyao Mar 2023

Experimental Study On Co2-Enhanced Coalbed Methane Production And Its Simultaneous Storage, Su Xianbo, Huang Jin, Wang Qian, Yu Shiyao

Coal Geology & Exploration

Experimental study on CO2-enhanced coalbed methane production and its simultaneous storage Abstract: For a long time, a lot of work has been done on CO2-enhanced coalbed methane (CO2-ECBM), but the limited industrial trials failed to achieve the expected purpose, which prevented the promotion and application of CBM enhancement technology. In recent years, with the establishment of carbon neutrality routes in different countries, CO2 geological storage has gradually gained attention, and the questions of whether coal reservoirs can be treated as CO2 storage space and whether simultaneous CO2 displacing CH4 and …

Coal Methane Control And Its Emission Reduction Potential In China, Sang Shuxun, Liu Shiqi, Han Sijie, Zheng Sijian, Liu Tong, Zhou Xiaozhi, Wang Ran, Wang Meng Mar 2023

Coal Methane Control And Its Emission Reduction Potential In China, Sang Shuxun, Liu Shiqi, Han Sijie, Zheng Sijian, Liu Tong, Zhou Xiaozhi, Wang Ran, Wang Meng

Coal Geology & Exploration

Methane is the most important non-CO2 greenhouse gas, which has attracted more and more attention. Coal methane is the most important methane emission source in China, and China is also the country with the largest amount of coal methane emissions in the world. Therefore, the effective emission control and the efficient development and utilization of coal methane have triple benefits, such as greenhouse gas emission reduction, energy gas development and utilization, and hazardous gas control. Based on the accumulation of systematic investigation and research, the background of coal methane emission control was summarized and conclusion was made for the …

Mechanism Of Coal Fine-Bubble Coupling In The Unsaturated Flow Stage Of Coalbed Methane Drainage, Han Wenlong, Li Yong, Chen Xiangsheng, Zhuo Qiming, Wang Yanbin

Coal Geology & Exploration

To reveal the mechanism of interaction between coal fines and gas in the unsaturated flow stage of coalbed methane (CBM) drainage, it is essential to formulate the drainage system and improve the gas production. The effect of air bubbles with different diameters on coal fines with different particle sizes and densities was systematically experimented through the experiment device for microscopic interaction between the air bubble and the coal fines. Meanwhile, the influence of air bubbles on the migration trajectory and velocity of coal fines and the characteristics of coal fine capturing by air bubbles were also analyzed. The results show …
