Microgrid-Enabled Reactive Power Support To Enhance Grid Economics, Sarhan Hasan
Microgrid-Enabled Reactive Power Support To Enhance Grid Economics, Sarhan Hasan
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Reactive power plays an essential role in voltage control and stability in electric power systems. Various Volt/VAR techniques are utilized in electric power systems to maintain the voltage profile within defined acceptable limits and accordingly provide reliability and stability. Reactive power has been commonly generated through large-scale synchronous generators or distributed capacitor banks to provide proper transmission and distribution level system management, however, reactive power can be further used as an effective means to reduce total system operation cost. In this dissertation, an optimal reactive power model is proposed to determine the optimal nodal reactive powers that result in the …
All Season Heat Pipe System., Adrienne Marie Parsons
All Season Heat Pipe System., Adrienne Marie Parsons
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Our energy choices impact the earth’s natural systems and climate. As this becomes increasingly important, the need for decreasing our energy usage is essential. Conventional passive solar systems can significantly reduce the heating load. Similarly, passive ambient energy systems, such as ventilation and sky radiation, can reduce cooling loads. However, the integration of passive heating and cooling systems in the same building and the benefits of actively controlling these otherwise passive systems to maximize annual energy savings has largely been unexplored. This study first evaluates the building cooling capacity of sky radiation, which was previously identified to have the greatest …
The Eco-Smart Can V2.0, Darack B. Nanto
The Eco-Smart Can V2.0, Darack B. Nanto
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
On a scorching summer day in 2015, a campus maintenance worker was observed emptying a trash bin. Upon closer observation, it was noted that the bin was not full; in fact, it was less than one third full. There were other bins that were full and needed to be emptied urgently. It was confusing and problematic to see that bins that needed more attention were not prioritized. After extended research, it was found that maintenance operates on daily routes to pick up trash at designated times, regardless of the level of trash in the bins. Therefore, to tackle this issue, …
Application Of Silicon Nanohair Textured P-N Junctions In A Photovoltaic Device, Michael Small
Application Of Silicon Nanohair Textured P-N Junctions In A Photovoltaic Device, Michael Small
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The goal of this project is to design and develop a fabrication process for a silicon photovoltaic device which incorporates a nanohair textured p-n junction. The silicon nanowires are etched into a silicon wafer, comprising an epitaxial p-layer on n-substrate, via metal-assisted chemical etching (MACE). The resulting nanowires contain p-n junctions that lie along the length of the vertical nanowires. This construct has the potential to increase the optical bandwidth of a silicon photovoltaic device by allowing a greater amount of short wavelength light to reach the junction. In addition, the MACE method of nanofabrication has the potential for decreasing …
Reactive Lamination Of Perovskite Solar Cells., Lyndie Burns
Reactive Lamination Of Perovskite Solar Cells., Lyndie Burns
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Due to the growing demand for energy internationally and the environmental impact of other conventional energy technologies, solar power has been a growing area in the energy landscape. Perovskite research has increased substantially because of the high power conversion efficiencies, up to 22%, with many recent advances in the use of these organic-inorganic hybrid perovskites for photovoltaic cells. However, to bring perovskite solar cells into the industrial world, the overall cost of the manufacturing of the solar cell must be improved to compete with other well-developed photovoltaic technologies. Here is presented an alternative perovskite deposition method for methylammonium lead halide …
Solar Power Deployment: Forecasting And Planning, Mohana Shandal Alanazi
Solar Power Deployment: Forecasting And Planning, Mohana Shandal Alanazi
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The rapid growth of Photovoltaic (PV) technology has been very visible over the past decade. Recently, the penetration of PV plants to the existing grid has significantly increased. Such increase in the integration of solar energy has brought attention to the solar irradiance forecasting. This thesis presents a thorough research of PV technology, how solar power can be forecasted, and PV planning under uncertainty.
Over the last decade, the PV was one of the fastest growing renewable energy technologies. However, the PV system output varies based on weather conditions. Due to the variability and the uncertainty of solar power, the …
Modeling And Fault Detection In Dc Side Of Photovoltaic Arrays, Mohd Akram
Modeling And Fault Detection In Dc Side Of Photovoltaic Arrays, Mohd Akram
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Fault detection in PV systems is a key factor in maintaining the integrity of any PV system. Faults in photovoltaic systems can cause irrevocable damages to the stability of the PV system and substantially decrease the power output generated from the array of PV modules. Among'st the various AC and DC faults in a PV system, the clearance of the AC side faults is achieved by conventional AC protection schemes, the DC side, however , there still exists certain faults which are difficult to detect and clear. This paper deals with the modeling, detection and classification of these types of DC …
Optimization Of Process Parameters For Faster Deposition Of Cuin1-Xgaxs2 And Cuin1-Xgaxse2-Ysy Thin Film Solar Cells, Ashwani Kaul
Optimization Of Process Parameters For Faster Deposition Of Cuin1-Xgaxs2 And Cuin1-Xgaxse2-Ysy Thin Film Solar Cells, Ashwani Kaul
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Thin film solar cells have the potential to be an important contributor to the world energy demand in the 21st century. Among all the thin film technologies, CuInGaSe2 (CIGS) thin film solar cells have achieved the highest efficiency. However, the high price of photovoltaic (PV) modules has been a major factor impeding their growth for terrestrial applications. Reduction in cost of PV modules can be realized by several ways including choosing scalable processes amenable to large area deposition, reduction in the materials consumption of active layers, and attaining faster deposition rates suitable for in-line processing. Selenization-sulfurization of sputtered metallic Cu-In-Ga …
