Three Hundred And Sixty Degree Real-Time Monitoring Of 3-D Printing Using Computer Analysis Of Two Camera Views, Siranee Nuchitprasitchai, Michael C. Roggeman, Joshua M. Pearce Mar 2018

Three Hundred And Sixty Degree Real-Time Monitoring Of 3-D Printing Using Computer Analysis Of Two Camera Views, Siranee Nuchitprasitchai, Michael C. Roggeman, Joshua M. Pearce

Joshua M. Pearce

Prosumer (producing consumer)-based desktop additive manufacturing has been enabled by the recent radical reduction in 3-D printer capital costs created by the open-source release of the self-replicating rapid prototype (RepRap). To continue this success, there have been some efforts to improve reliability, which are either too expensive or lacked automation. A promising method to improve reliability is to use computer vision, although the success rates are still too low for widespread use. To overcome these challenges an open source low-cost reliable real-time optimal monitoring platform for 3-D printing from double cameras is presented here. This error detection system is implemented …

Prediction Of Remaining Life Of Power Transformers Based On Left Truncated And Right Censored Lifetime Data, Yili Hong, William Q. Meeker, James D. Mccalley Jun 2017

Prediction Of Remaining Life Of Power Transformers Based On Left Truncated And Right Censored Lifetime Data, Yili Hong, William Q. Meeker, James D. Mccalley

Prediction of the remaining life of high-voltage power transformers is an important issue for energy companies because of the need for planning maintenance and capital expenditures. Lifetime data for such transformers are complicated because transformer lifetimes can extend over many decades and transformer designs and manufacturing practices have evolved. We were asked to develop statistically-based predictions for the lifetimes of an energy company’s fleet of high-voltage transmission and distribution transformers. The company’s data records begin in 1980, providing information on installation and failure dates of transformers. Although the dataset contains many units that were installed before 1980, there is no …

Reliability-Based Conversion Of A Structural Design Code For Railway Prestressed Concrete Sleepers, A M. Remennikov, Martin Murray, Sakdirat Kaewunruen Oct 2013

Reliability-Based Conversion Of A Structural Design Code For Railway Prestressed Concrete Sleepers, A M. Remennikov, Martin Murray, Sakdirat Kaewunruen

"Ballasted railway track is very suitable for heavy-rail networks because of its many superior advantages in design, construction, short- and long-term maintenance, sustainability, and life cycle cost. An important part of the railway track system, which distributes the wheel load to the formation, is the railway sleeper. Improved knowledge has raised concerns about design techniques for prestressed concrete (PC) sleepers. Most current design codes for these rely on allowable stresses and material strength reductions. However, premature cracking of PC sleepers has been found in railway tracks. The major cause of cracking is the infrequent but high-magnitude wheel loads produced by …

The paper concerns with formulae and calculations of a selected group of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for the main electricity transmission system in Oman. These include the following service quality, reliability, security, and financial indicators [1]: &#; System Average Interruption Frequency Index (SAIFI) &#; System Average Interruption Duration Index (SAID) &#; Customer Average Interruption Duration Index (CAIDI) &#; Average Interruption Time (AIT) &#; Overhead Lines Maintenance Cost Index (OHLMCI) &#; Substation Maintenance Cost Index (SSMCI) Results of the main transmission grid in Oman, over the last 3 years, are presented. The results are useful in indicating trends of the KPIs …

Reliability Assessment Of Railway Prestressed Concrete Sleepers, Sakdirat Kaewunruen, Alexander Remennikov Jan 2009

Reliability Assessment Of Railway Prestressed Concrete Sleepers, Sakdirat Kaewunruen, Alexander Remennikov

This paper carries out the assessment of reliability indices of railway prestressed concrete sleepers designed in accordance with Australian Standard: AS1085.19. The current design approach of the prestressed concrete sleeper relies on the permissible stresses over crosssectional area. Loading condition acting on railway sleepers is considered from axle burden and dynamic amplification factor. On the basis of Australian design of railway prestressed concrete sleepers, only service limit states are considered; however, the design challenge is to provide adequate resistance of certain cross sections to both positive and negative bending moments. In this paper, the service limit states functions are formulated …

Impact Of Interconnection Photovoltaic/Wind System With Utility On Their Reliability Using A Fuzzy Scheme, Dr. Adel A. Elbaset Aug 2005

Impact Of Interconnection Photovoltaic/Wind System With Utility On Their Reliability Using A Fuzzy Scheme, Dr. Adel A. Elbaset

Dr. Adel A. Elbaset

Reliability analysis has been considered as an important step in any system design process. a reliable electrical power system means that the system which having sufficient power to feed the load demand during a certain period or in other word, having small Loss of Load Probability (LOLP). LOLP is defined as an expected fraction of load not met by its needed power from electrical power system during its lifetime. Photovoltaic (PV) / Wind Energy System (WES) hybrid electric power system (PV/WES HEPS) differs considerably from the utility grid (UG) in their performance and operating characteristics. With the interconnection of PV/WES …
