A Generalized Neuron Based Adaptive Power System Stabilizer For Multimachine Environment, D. K. Chaturvedi, O. P. Malik

D. K. Chaturvedi Dr.

Artificial neural networks trained as intelligent controllers can easily accommodate the non-linearities and time dependencies of non-linear, dynamic systems. However, they require large training time and large number of neurons to deal with complex problems. Taking benefit of the characteristics of a generalized neuron (GN), that requires much smaller training data and shorter training time, a generalized neuron based adaptive power system stabilizer (GNAPSS) is proposed. It consists of a GN as an predictor, that predicts the plant dynamics, and a GN as a controller to damp low frequency oscillations. Results show that the proposed GNAPSS can provide a consistently …

Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) is an IETF open standard to provide directory services in the network. LDAP was initially developed at the University of Michigan with an objective to include most of the features of X.500 directory structure, while eliminating the burdens and difficulties of the same.

As LDAP does not provide any specification on the data storage, different venders can implement different mechanism for data storage as found suitable to the specific vender or environment. Although underlying data storage system between different LDAP servers can differ, this disparity does not affect the functionality or interaction of LDAP clients. …

A Short History Of Mineral Processing, Fathi Habashi

Fathi Habashi

Crushing and grinding of ores and their beneficiation by washing away gangue minerals has been practiced since ancient times. Primitive crushing was done by hand pounding the ore with a hard stone then by using metallic hammers. The mortar and pestle was mechanized using a lever and when the size of operations increased in the middle ages, the stamp mill was introduced. The grindstone played an important role in grinding of ores. Panning for gold and hand sorting of minerals were two old methods of separation, now gave way to modern techniques. Flotation started in the middle of the nineteenth …

Inventions On Ldap Security- A Triz Based Analysis, Umakant Mishra

Umakant Mishra

The specifications of LDAP v.3 provide facilities for simple authentication using a cleartext password as well as any SASL mechanism.SASL allows for integrity and privacy services to be negotiated (RFC 2251, www.ietf.org/rfc/rfc2251.txt). Use of cleartext password is strongly discouraged where the underlying transport service cannot guarantee confidentiality and may result in disclosure of the password to unauthorized parties. The protocol allows other security mechanisms like SASL to be implemented in LDAP. The protocol also permits that the server can return its credentials to the client, if it chooses to do so. This article is a TRIZ based study on patents …

Diode Quad Is Foundation For Pin Diode Attenuator, Chin-Leong Lim Apr 2006

Diode Quad Is Foundation For Pin Diode Attenuator, Chin-Leong Lim

Chin-Leong Lim

Voltage-variable attenuators (VVAs) enable gain adjustment in a wide range of applications, including in cable-television (CATV), satellite-television (SATV) systems, and even test equipment and measurement systems. The PI VVA configuration using PIN diodes is ubiquitous in CATV and SATV systems owing to its low part count, small size, constant impedance, high linearity, and multi-decade bandwidth. Presently, there is a great pressure to miniaturize this VVA in order to shrink end-product size. To miniaturize this class of VVAs, we integrated four diodes into a five-pin, leadfree SOT-25 surface mount package. This paper describes the prototype VVA's design, fabrication and experimental results. …

The major cationic peroxidase in sorghum grain (SPC4) , which is ubiquitously present in all sorghum varieties was purified to apparent homogeneity, and found to be a highly basic protein (pI #1;11). MS analysis showed that SPC4 consists of two glycoforms with molecular masses of 34227 and 35629 Da and it contains a type-b heme. Chemical deglycosylation allowed to estimate sugar contents of 3.0% and 6.7% (w ⁄ w) in glycoform I and II, respectively, and a mass of the apoprotein of 33 246 Da. High performance anion exchange chromatography allowed to determine the carbohydrate constituents of the polysaccharide chains. …

Velocity Imaging For The Liquid–Gas Interface In The Near Field Of An Atomizing Spray: Proof Of Concept, David L. Sedarsky, Megan E. Paciaroni, Mark A. Linne, James R. Gord, Terrence R. Meyer Mar 2006

Velocity Imaging For The Liquid–Gas Interface In The Near Field Of An Atomizing Spray: Proof Of Concept, David L. Sedarsky, Megan E. Paciaroni, Mark A. Linne, James R. Gord, Terrence R. Meyer

Terrence R Meyer

We describe adaptation of ballistic imaging for the liquid core of an atomizing spray. To describe unambiguously the forces that act to break apart the liquid core in a spray, one must directly measure the force vectors themselves. It would be invaluable, therefore, to obtain velocity and acceleration data at the liquid-gas interface. We employ double-image ballistic imaging to extract velocity information through the application of image analysis algorithms. This method is shown to be effective for liquid phase droplet features within the resolution limit of the imaging system. In light of these results, it is clear that a three- …

Coupling Between Lysozyme And Trehalose Dynamics: Microscopic Insights From Molecular-Dynamics Simulations, Taner E. Dirama, Joseph E. Curtis, Gustavo A. Carri, Alexei P. Sokolov

Gustavo A. Carri

We have carried out molecular-dynamics simulations on fully flexible all-atom models of the protein lysozyme immersed in trehalose, an effective biopreservative, with the purpose of exploring the nature and extent of the dynamical coupling between them. Our study shows a strong coupling over a wide range of temperatures. We found that the onset of anharmonic behavior was dictated by changes in the dynamics and relaxation processes in the trehalose glass. The physical origin of protein-trehalose coupling was traced to the hydrogen bonds formed at the interface between the protein and the solvent. Moreover, protein-solvent hydrogen bonding was found to control …

Relationship Between Vertical Shear Rate And Kinetic Energy Dissipation Rate In Stably Stratified Flows, Stephen De Bruyn Kops, D. Hebert Dec 2005

Relationship Between Vertical Shear Rate And Kinetic Energy Dissipation Rate In Stably Stratified Flows, Stephen De Bruyn Kops, D. Hebert

Stephen de Bruyn Kops

High resolution direct numerical simulations of strongly stratified turbulence are analyzed in order to investigate the relationship between vertical shearing of horizontal motions and the dissipation rate of kinetic energy. The relative magnitude of each component of the dissipation rate is examined as a function of the Reynolds number and of the buoyancy Reynolds number. From the simulation results, in conjunction with published laboratory results, it is concluded that (1) the simulation results are consistent with the laboratory data but span a much larger range of buoyancy Reynolds number, (2) the ratio of the square of the vertical shear rate …

The system consists of three units that are a set of 18 packed-bed solar air heaters, a latent heat storage tank with 6000 kg of technical grade paraffin wax as phase-changing material, and a greenhouse of 180m2. The cost rate balance for the output of a unit is used to estimate the specific cost of exergy for a yearly operation. Based on the cost rate of exergy, fixed capital investment, operating cost, and economic data, approximate cash-flow diagrams have been prepared. The systems …

Melt Dispersion Mechanism For Fast Reaction Of Nanothermites, Valery I. Levitas, Blaine W. Asay, Steven F. Son, Michelle Pantoya Dec 2005

Melt Dispersion Mechanism For Fast Reaction Of Nanothermites, Valery I. Levitas, Blaine W. Asay, Steven F. Son, Michelle Pantoya

Steven F. Son

An unexpected mechanism for fast oxidation of Alnanoparticles covered by a thin oxide shell (OS) is proposed. The volume change due to melting of Al induces pressures of 0.1–4GPa and causes spallation of the OS. A subsequent unloading wave creates high tensile pressures resulting in dispersion of liquid Al clusters, oxidation of which is not limited by diffusion (in contrast to traditional mechanisms). Physical parameters controlling this process are determined. Methods to promote this melt dispersion mechanism, and consequently, improve efficiency of energetic nanothermites are discussed.
