Optimization Of Human Interactions In The College Campus Model Via Simio Integration, Benjamin E. Chaback Apr 2024

Optimization Of Human Interactions In The College Campus Model Via Simio Integration, Benjamin E. Chaback

Doctoral Dissertations and Master's Theses

College campuses are a significant part of life in some cities. Many students each year attend university, pursuing additional knowledge from faculty members. Both staff and faculty members rely on these students to have successful jobs and to ensure the university functions. Yet recently, more and more students are attending, leading to overcrowding, lower admission rates, and difficulty getting into good programs. Previous work exists on qualitative student affairs and quantitative retention data, yet little on using simulations to model this problem. This work aimed to (a) Determine the ability to successfully model human interactions/people flow on a college campus, …

Optimization Of Rover Wheel Geometries For Planetary Missions, Nikita Amberkar Jul 2022

Optimization Of Rover Wheel Geometries For Planetary Missions, Nikita Amberkar

Doctoral Dissertations and Master's Theses

Rovers have been launched into space for exploration of the Moon and Mars to collect samples of rock and soil. To continue the explorations, the rovers need to have reliable wheels to drive around. However, due to the soil being soft, the wheels on the rover start to lose traction and the wheels sink while driving to various locations. Previous work in this field has been done experimentally or with the use of simulations. Only a few references report the effect of uncertainties in grouser simulation on the traction efficiency. The objective of this work was to (a) Understand the …

Shape Optimization Of A Sandwich Composite Plate With Low-Velocity Impact Loading And Effect Of Finite Difference Sensitivity Analysis, Utsav Shah Aug 2021

Shape Optimization Of A Sandwich Composite Plate With Low-Velocity Impact Loading And Effect Of Finite Difference Sensitivity Analysis, Utsav Shah

Doctoral Dissertations and Master's Theses

The structural design of spacesuits is essential in an advancing future of both Lunar and Martian space exploration. A typical spacesuit is made of sandwich composite material and designed to withstand various pressure and loading conditions while also considering the safety and comfort of the astronauts. One of the critical load cases in spacesuit design is a low-velocity impact (LVI) which may occur due to tool drop and other similar scenarios. The objectives of this work were (a) to create a finite element (FE) model of a component of a spacesuit, (b) validation of the FE model through experiments, (c) …

Optimization Of Flow Quality In The Test Section Of The 30-Inch X 40- Inch Subsonic Tunnel, Ahmed F. Elnenaey Apr 2001

Optimization Of Flow Quality In The Test Section Of The 30-Inch X 40- Inch Subsonic Tunnel, Ahmed F. Elnenaey

Master's Theses - Daytona Beach

The purpose of this study is to optimize the flow quality inside the 30-inch x 40-inch subsonic wind tunnel. The tunnel is an open circuit with its inlet positioned adjacent to the side door of the lab; forcing the air to make a ninety degrees turn entering the tunnel. The flow suffered from two main deficiencies, high level of turbulence and slightly unsteady flow with a non-uniform velocity distribution across the test section. By utilizing a hot-film anemometer system and a total pressure rake, turbulence and velocity distribution data were obtained. Rounded corners and a turning vane were installed in …

An Optimization Technique Of Airlines' Seat Inventory Management, Husam Abdallah Mahmoud Fanasheh Apr 1997

An Optimization Technique Of Airlines' Seat Inventory Management, Husam Abdallah Mahmoud Fanasheh

Master's Theses - Daytona Beach

This study consisted of a simulation to maximize an airline's Origin- Destination revenues. It has been hypothesized that Linear Programming is capable of maximizing airlines' networks revenues. Simulation was performed with Linear Interactive Discrete Optimizer (LINDO). This project was designed to consider different fares and its classes along with multi flight connections. The seats' allocation process came out with the maximum possible revenues, and enough flexibility in terms of changing such allocation to work around competition and trends. Results came supportive to the hypothesis. Sensitivity analysis provided our model with a tool to modify and change different variables, like fares, …
