Michigan Tech Research Data
Natural disasters pose significant threats to the environment and make land unsuitable for man. The lava from volcanic eruptions rapidly moves on the Earth surface and affects both natural and man-made features on the Earth. Remote sensing is relevant in extracting information about the areas affected by lava flows without physically visiting such areas. The objective of this study is to develop a workflow for determining the optimal ground sample distance of a digital elevation model to delineate the lava flow paths using object-based image analysis and geomorphologic analysis. For the experiment, the satellite images and digital elevation model of …

The CitDet dataset is composed of images captured at the USDA Agricultural Research Service Subtropical Insects and Horticulture Research Unit in Fort Pierce, FL, USA. Data was collected between October 2021 and October 2022. 579 images were captured from different sections of the orchard using the open-source application Field Book on Android tablets. While collecting images, we faced the camera in a portrait orientation directly centered on the tree of interest. All images were taken at the edge of the soil in the tree row to simulate a ground-based robot imaging the tree while moving between two rows of trees. …

This article has been retracted: please see Elsevier Policy on Article Withdrawal (https://www.elsevier.com/about/policies/article-withdrawal). This article has been retracted at the request of the Editor-in-Chief. The Editor-in-Chief found that the corresponding author of this article submitted the manuscript to the journal without the consent of the two individuals named as "co-authors", using invented email addresses to impersonate them. In addition, based on the raw materials presented to the journal by the second co-author and the Editor-in-Chief's own investigation, the Editor-in-Chief believes that some results in the paper are fabricated. Based on these two findings, the Editor-in-Chief has decided to retract the …

Contaminated urban soil is one of the major contributors to child Pb exposure. To gain a better understanding of Pb risk in urban areas, composite samples were collected from 142 residential, privately owned, parcels in Detroit, Hamtramck, and Highland Park, Michigan, with approval from the property owners. The proximity of soil sampling and former smelter locations were also reported. Sample were collected from areas covered with turf grass. Four samples were collected, one from each cardinal direction (north, south, east, and west), 20 cm from an aluminum tent stake driven into the center of the sampling site. Soils were collected …

Cyber-attacks continue to evolve, increasing in frequency and sophistication where Artificial Intelligence (AI) is becoming essential in detecting modern malware. However, the accuracy of AI in malware detection is dependent on the quality of the features it is trained with. Static and dynamic analysis of malware is limited by the widespread use of obfuscation and anti-analysis techniques employed by malware authors, where if an analysis environment is detected the malware will hide its malicious behavior. However, Dynamic Binary Instrumentation (DBI) allows deep and precise control of the malware sample, thereby facilitating the extraction of authentic features from sophisticated and evasive …
