Monte Carlo Modelling Of A Silicon Strip Detector For Microbeam Radiation Therapy, Ashley Cullen, Michael Lerch, Marco Petasecca, Anatoly Rosenfeld

Michael L.F. Lerch

Microbeam radiation therapy is an experimental technique utilising synchrotron X-rays collimated into a planar array of microbeams. Due to the complex structure of the radiation field and high dose rate, this introduces dosimetric challenges. Current dosimetric methods are inadequate in that they lack either real-time readout, or high spatial resolution. A detector system, consisting of the Silicon Multi-Strip Detector and associated readout system was developed at the University of Wollongong. This system performs online, real-time dosimetry, and is designed for placement upstream of the patient as a transmission detector. The interaction of synchrotron radiation with this detector, both in terms …

Modelling Trilayer Conjugated Polymer Actuators For Their Sensorless Position Control, Chuc Nguyen, Gursel Alici, G Wallace Jul 2013

Modelling Trilayer Conjugated Polymer Actuators For Their Sensorless Position Control, Chuc Nguyen, Gursel Alici, G Wallace

Chuc Huu Nguyen

In this paper, we present a new model to describe the displacement response of a trilayer conjugated polymer actuator that can operate in dry environments. The proposed model based on the working principle of conjugated polymer actuators includes diffusion impedances combined with double layer capacitors and charge transfer resistors. The parameters of the model are estimated by using a nonlinear least square estimation method by comparing simulation and experimental results. The proposed model is very useful in predicting the impedance as well as the displacement response of the polymer actuators accurately. Based on the proposed model, an inversion-based controller not …

Point Of Common Coupling (Pcc) Voltage Control Of A Grid-Connected Solar Photovoltaic (Pv) System, Brian Perera, Philip Ciufo, Sarath Perera Dec 2012

Point Of Common Coupling (Pcc) Voltage Control Of A Grid-Connected Solar Photovoltaic (Pv) System, Brian Perera, Philip Ciufo, Sarath Perera

Dr Philip Ciufo

In future low voltage grids, with multiple inverter interfaced sources connected, voltage regulation may become a necessary task. The potential exists for inverter interfaced sources to be deployed to regulate the voltage at the point of common coupling (PCC) of each inverter interfaced sources. The PCC voltage regulation is attainable with inverter interfaced sources by dynamically controlling the amount of reactive power injected to the power distribution grid by individual systems. In the current research, a closed-loop controller is proposed to regulate the PCC voltage of a solar photovoltaic (PV) system that is connected to a single-phase power distribution feeder …
