Effect Of 30 T Magnetic Field On Transformations In A Novel Bainitic Steel, Muruganant Marimuthu, H.K.D.H Bhadeshia, S Babu, J Wilgen, D Nicholson, R Jaramillo, G Ludtka, R Kisner, G Mackiewicz-Ludtka, S Kelly

Muruganant Marimuthu

The continuous cooling transformation characteristics of novel bainitic steels have been studied, both under ordinary conditionsand whilst subjected to a 30 T magnetic field. The magnetic field has been found to completely change the microstructure obtained, from a mixture of bainite and martensite to one containing an incredibly fine pearlite with an interlamellar spacing of about 50 nm.As a consequence, the pearlite is found to be much harder than any other examples found in the published literature.

Magnetic Structures Of Pr0.8lu0.2mn2ge2 And Pr0.6lu0.4mn2ge2, Jianli Wang, A J Studer, S.J Campbell, Shane Kennedy, Rong Zeng, S. Dou, Guangheng Wu Jul 2013

Magnetic Structures Of Pr0.8lu0.2mn2ge2 And Pr0.6lu0.4mn2ge2, Jianli Wang, A J Studer, S.J Campbell, Shane Kennedy, Rong Zeng, S. Dou, Guangheng Wu

The magnetic structures of Pr0.8Lu0.2Mn2Ge2 and Pr0.6Lu0.4Mn2Ge2 have been determined by neutron powder diffraction over the temperature range 10-450 K. On cooling from the paramagnetic region the Mn sublattice of Pr0.8Lu0.2Mn2Ge2 orders in a similar manner to PrMn2Ge2 with first ab-plane intralayer antiferromagnetism (AFl) below TNintra ~ 397 K followed by canted ferromagnetism (Fmc) at TCinter ~ 330 K and then a conical (Fmi) spin structure below Tc/c ~ 192 …

In this paper we report the results of an extended study of the effect of sugar doping on the structural and electromagnetic properties of MgB2 superconductors. High values of the upper critical field (Bc2) of 36 T and the irreversibility field (Birr) of 27 T have been estimated at the temperature of 5 K in a bulk MgB2 sample with the addition of 10 wt% of sugar. The critical current density (Jc(Ba)) of sugar-doped samples has been significantly improved in the high field region. The value of transport Jc has reached as high as 108 A m-2 at 10 T …

Neutron Diffraction Study Of The Magnetic Order In Ndmn2ge1.6si0.4, Jianli Wang, Stewart Campbell, John Cadogan, A J Studer, Rong Zeng, S. Dou Jul 2013

Neutron Diffraction Study Of The Magnetic Order In Ndmn2ge1.6si0.4, Jianli Wang, Stewart Campbell, John Cadogan, A J Studer, Rong Zeng, S. Dou

Here we report a detailed investigation of NdMn2Ge1.6Si0.4; this forms part of our investigation of the magnetic order across the NdMn2Ge2−xSix (x = 0–2.0) series by magnetometry, x-ray diffraction and neutron diffraction over the temperature range 6–465 K. On decreasing the temperature from 465 K, NdMn2Ge1.6Si0.4 exhibits four magnetic transitions: (i) from paramagnetism to intralayer antiferromagnetism AFl at TIntraN ~ 430 K; (ii) AFl to canted ferromagnetism Fmc at TInterC ~ 330 K; (iii) Fmc to conical magnetic ordering …

Identification Of Factors Limiting The Critical Current Density In Mgb2 _Xcx Superconductors At Low Magnetic Fields, Olga Shcherbakova, Alexey Pan, Jianli Wang, Andrey Shcherbakov, S. Dou, David Wexler Jul 2013

Structural analysis and electromagnetic measurements have been performed on a range of samples prepared by the liquid mixing approach to doping MgB2 are sugar, malic acid, and polycarbosilane. The results obtained have allowed us to clarify the contributions of the factors limiting critical current at low magnetic fields in doped MgB2.

Three First Order Magnetic Phase Transitions In Re-Entrant Ferromagnet Prmn1.4fe0.6ge2, Rong Zeng, Jianli Wang, Lin Lu, Wenxian Li, Stewart Campbell, S Dou Jul 2013

Three First Order Magnetic Phase Transitions In Re-Entrant Ferromagnet Prmn1.4fe0.6ge2, Rong Zeng, Jianli Wang, Lin Lu, Wenxian Li, Stewart Campbell, S Dou

Jianli Wang

Three first order magnetic phase transitions (FOMTs) have been detected and evaluated over the temperature range from 5 to 340 K at fields up to 9 T in PrMn1.4Fe0.6Ge2. All three FOMTs, from (with decreasing temperature) an antiferromagnetic (AFl) to a c-axis canted ferromagnetic (Fmc) state, to a c-axis canted antiferromagnetic (AFmc) state, and then to an Fmc state plus an additional Pr-sublattice magnetic contribution (Fmc + F(Pr)), exhibited temperature and field-induced transition features. A interesting phenomenon was observed, in that magnetic field can induce an AFmc to Fmc + F(Pr) transition, and then diminish and finally eliminate the re-entrant …

This report details correlated electrical, mechanical and magnetic behaviour in BiFeO3 ceramics doped with 10% Ln (Ln D Sm, Nd) ions on the Bi, or perovskite A, site and synthesized by a sol-gel method. The ceramics exhibit bulk piezoelectric and ferroelectric properties and clear ferroelectric domain patterns through piezoresponse force microscopy. Resonant ultrasound spectroscopy, dielectric spectroscopy and magnetometry studies show correlated magnetoelectromechanical behaviour and the existence of weak ferromagnetism for both compositions. An anomaly with simultaneous mechanical and magnetic signatures is discovered in both materials near room temperature, while previously reported transitions and anomalies are found to exhibit electro- and/or …
