Software Defined Radio For Hybrid Beamforming Applications, Jianyet Lee

Dissertations and Theses

Beamforming techniques have been deployed in both licensed networks such as LTE network and unlicensed network such as IEEE802.11ac WiFi. The scope of work for this thesis is to leverage the benefits of beamforming techniques and software defined radio platform in developing a fully functioning LTE testbed. The testbed can be further developed to specific application for drone-to-drone or D2D communication independent of intervention from base stations. Applying beamforming techniques to devices such as drones can solve poor quality signal detection at the receivers due to the interference signals generated by other devices in the attempt to communicate with the …

Spectrum Sharing, Latency, And Security In 5g Networks With Application To Iot And Smart Grid, Imtiaz Parvez

FIU Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The surge of mobile devices, such as smartphones, and tables, demands additional capacity. On the other hand, Internet-of-Things (IoT) and smart grid, which connects numerous sensors, devices, and machines require ubiquitous connectivity and data security. Additionally, some use cases, such as automated manufacturing process, automated transportation, and smart grid, require latency as low as 1 ms, and reliability as high as 99.99\%. To enhance throughput and support massive connectivity, sharing of the unlicensed spectrum (3.5 GHz, 5GHz, and mmWave) is a potential solution. On the other hand, to address the latency, drastic changes in the network architecture is required. The …

Intelligent Advancements In Location Management And C-Ran Power-Aware Resource Allocation, Emad Ali Aqeeli

Electronic Thesis and Dissertation Repository

The evolving of cellular networks within the last decade continues to focus on delivering a robust and reliable means to cope with the increasing number of users and demanded capacity. Recent advancements of cellular networks such as Long-Term Evolution (LTE) and LTE-advanced offer a remarkable high bandwidth connectivity delivered to the users. Signalling overhead is one of the vital issues that impact the cellular behavior. Causing a significant load in the core network hence effecting the cellular network reliability. Moreover, the signaling overhead decreases the Quality of Experience (QoE) of users. The first topic of the thesis attempts to reduce …

Radio Resource Management Optimization For Next Generation Wireless Networks, Karim Ahmed Hammad Nov 2016

Radio Resource Management Optimization For Next Generation Wireless Networks, Karim Ahmed Hammad

Electronic Thesis and Dissertation Repository

The prominent versatility of today’s mobile broadband services and the rapid advancements in the cellular phones industry have led to a tremendous expansion in the wireless market volume. Despite the continuous progress in the radio-access technologies to cope with that expansion, many challenges still remain that need to be addressed by both the research and industrial sectors. One of the many remaining challenges is the efficient allocation and management of wireless network resources when using the latest cellular radio technologies (e.g., 4G). The importance of the problem stems from the scarcity of the wireless spectral resources, the large number of …

Electronic Thesis and Dissertation Repository

Services providers (SPs) in the radio platform technology standard long term evolution (LTE) systems are enduring many challenges in order to accommodate the rapid expansion of mobile data usage. The modern technologies demonstrate new challenges to SPs, for example, reducing the cost of the capital and operating expenditures while supporting high data throughput per customer, extending battery life-per-charge of the cell phone devices, and supporting high mobility communications with fast and seamless handover (HO) networking architecture. In this thesis, a variety of optimized techniques aimed at providing innovative solutions for such challenges are explored. The thesis is divided into three …

Performance Optimization Of Network Protocols For Ieee 802.11s-Based Smart Grid Communications, Nico Saputro

FIU Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The transformation of the legacy electric grid to Smart Grid (SG) poses numerous challenges in the design and development of an efficient SG communications network. While there has been an increasing interest in identifying the SG communications network and possible SG applications, specific research challenges at the network protocol have not been elaborated yet. This dissertation revisited each layer of a TCP/IP protocol stack which basically was designed for a wired network and optimized their performance in IEEE 802.11s-based Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) communications network against the following challenges: security and privacy, AMI data explosion, periodic simultaneous data reporting scheduling, …

A Dual Band Lte Pifa Antenna For M2m Applications, Abraham Loutridis, Matthias John, Max Ammann

Articles

A dual Planar Inverted-F-Antenna for M2M applications, is proposed. The antenna covers the lower LTE band (690-960 MHz) and partially the upper LTE band (1670-2067 MHz). The antenna is low cost with omni-directional radiation characteristics. The measured total efficiency and gain are better than 58% and 0.8 dBi across the operational frequency range. A parametric study of key geometrical parameters is made.

Extended Coverage For Public Safety And Critical Communications Using Multi-Hop And D2d Communications, Leonardo Babun Mar 2015

Extended Coverage For Public Safety And Critical Communications Using Multi-Hop And D2d Communications, Leonardo Babun

FIU Electronic Theses and Dissertations

In this thesis, we proposed the use of device-to-device (D2D) communications for extending the coverage area of active base stations, for public safety communications with partial coverage. A 3GPP standard compliant D2D system level simulator is developed for HetNets and public safety scenarios and used to evaluate the performance of D2D discovery and communications underlying cellular networks. For D2D discovery, the benefits of time-domain inter-cell interference coordi- nation (ICIC) approaches by using almost blank subframes were evaluated. Also, the use of multi-hop is proposed to improve, even further, the performance of the D2D discovery process. Finally, the possibility of using …

Resource Allocation In Uplink Long Term Evolution, Aidin Reyhanimasoleh

Electronic Thesis and Dissertation Repository

One of the most crucial goals of future cellular systems is to minimize transmission power while increasing system performance. This master thesis work presents two channel-queue-aware scheduling schemes to allocate channels among active users in uplink LTE. Transmission power, packet delays and data rates are three of the most important criteria critically affecting the resource allocation designs. Therefore, each of these two scheduling algorithms proposes a practical method that assigns resources in such a way so as to optimally maximize data rate and minimize transmission power and packet delays while ensuring the QoS requirements. After converting the resource allocation problem …
