Development Of High Melting Temperature Microencapsulated Phase Change Material For Compacted Thermal Energy Storage Bed, Weiguang Su, Jo Darkwa, Georgios Kokogiannakis Jan 2014

Development Of High Melting Temperature Microencapsulated Phase Change Material For Compacted Thermal Energy Storage Bed, Weiguang Su, Jo Darkwa, Georgios Kokogiannakis

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A

In this paper a novel high temperature microencapsulated phase change material (MEPCM) based on paraffin as the core material and MF resin as the shell material has been developed with the in-situ polymerization method for solar hot water storage application. The results showed that the type of emulsifier could influence core material content, the encapsulation efficiency as well as the latent heat capacity. Based on the results and analysis the study has shown that energy storage density could be increased by as much as 59% if 60wt% of MEPCM 1 was to be used in the proposed compacted MEPCM-water bed …

Application Of Global Phase Filtering Method In Multi Frequency Measurement, Limei Song, Yulan Chang, Zongyan Li, Pengqiang Wang, Guangxin Xing, Jiangtao Xi

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A

In reverse engineering, reconstruction of 3D point cloud data is the key step to acquire the final profile of the object. However, the quality of 3D reconstruction is influenced by noise in the three-dimensional measurement. This paper aims to tackle the issue of removing the noisy data from the complex point cloud data. The 3D-GPF (Three Dimensional Global Phase Filtering) global phase filtering method is proposed based on the study of phase filtering method, consisting of the steps below. Firstly, the six-step phase shift profilometry is used to obtain the local phase information, and encoding the obtained phase information. Through …

Multi-Phase Ant Colony System For Multi-Party Data-Intensive Service Provision, Lijuan Wang, Jun Shen Jan 2014

Multi-Phase Ant Colony System For Multi-Party Data-Intensive Service Provision, Lijuan Wang, Jun Shen

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A

The rapid proliferation of enormous sources of digital data has led to greater dependence on data-intensive services. Each service may actually request or create a large amount of data sets. To compose these services will be more challenging. Issues such as autonomy, scalability, adaptability, and robustness, become difficult to resolve. In order to automate the process of reaching an agreement among service composers, service providers, and data providers, an ant-inspired negotiation mechanism is considered in this paper. We exploit a group of agents automatically negotiating to establish agreeable service contracts. Twostage negotiation procedures are used in our data-intensive service provision …

A New Quaternary Phase Observed In A Laser Treated Zn-Al-Mg-Si Coating, Z Chen, C.-T Peng, Q Liu, R Smith, D Nolan Jan 2014

A New Quaternary Phase Observed In A Laser Treated Zn-Al-Mg-Si Coating, Z Chen, C.-T Peng, Q Liu, R Smith, D Nolan

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A

The microstructure of laser resurfaced Zn-55Al-2Mg-1.5Si coating produced on a hot-dip simulator was characterised by transmission electron microscopy. A new quaternary phase was observed and its crystal structure was determined by electron diffraction.

Absolute Phase Map Recovery Of Two Fringe Patterns With Flexible Selection Of Fringe Wavelengths, Jiale Long, Jiangtao Xi, Ming Zhu, Wenqing Cheng, Rui Cheng, Zhongwei Li, Yusheng Shi Jan 2014

Absolute Phase Map Recovery Of Two Fringe Patterns With Flexible Selection Of Fringe Wavelengths, Jiale Long, Jiangtao Xi, Ming Zhu, Wenqing Cheng, Rui Cheng, Zhongwei Li, Yusheng Shi

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A

A novel approach is proposed to unwrap the phase maps of two fringe patterns in fringe pattern projection-based profilometry. In contrast to existing techniques, where spatial frequencies (i.e., the number of fringes on a pattern) of the two fringe patterns must be integers and coprime, the proposed method is applicable for any two fringe patterns with different fringe wavelengths (i.e., the number of pixels in a fringe) and thus provides more flexibility in the use of fringe patterns. Moreover, compared to the existing techniques, the proposed method is simpler in its implementation and has better antierror capability. Theoretical analysis and …

Effect Of Holding Temperature And Time On Ferrite Formation In Dual Phase Steel Produced By Strip Casting, Zhiping Xiong, Andrii Kostryzhev, Nicole Stanford, Elena V. Pereloma Jan 2014

Effect Of Holding Temperature And Time On Ferrite Formation In Dual Phase Steel Produced By Strip Casting, Zhiping Xiong, Andrii Kostryzhev, Nicole Stanford, Elena V. Pereloma

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A

Conventional dual phase (DP) steel (0.08C-0.81Si-1.47Mn-0.03Al, wt. %) was manufactured by the laboratory simulation of strip casting. The effect of holding temperature and time on microstructure evolution was studied using a quench-deformation dilatometer. Microstructures were observed using optical and scanning electron microscopy. The results showed that the nose temperature of ferrite phase field is around 650 °C. The kinetics of ferrite formation is fast within the first 100 s of holding at this temperature, and then formation of ferrite continues at a slower rate until it reaches the fraction corresponding to that defined by the lever rule. 70~80 % ferrite …
