Synthesis Of Carbamate Through Low Pressure Heterogeneous Oxidative Carbonylation Of Amines, Bei Chen, Yawu Chi, Steven Chuang, Pisanu Toochinda

The process disclosed herein satisfies the need in the art for an industrially viable oxidative carbonylation catalytic system, and is capable of producing carbamates at a significantly higher rate than those processes reported in journal and patent literature. This reaction process takes place via a reaction mechanism that does not involve drastic conditions. Specifically, the catalytic system of the present invention employs Group VIII metal catalysts and/or copper-based catalysts with halide promoters to produce carbamates through heterogeneous oxidative carbonylation at atmospheric pressure and relatively non-drastic temperatures in a gas-solid carbonylation process.

Carbon-based solid oxide fuel cell (C-SOFC) is an effective approach for electric power generation because of its simplicity. The basic principle of the carbon-based fuel cell is electrochemical oxidization of solid carbon to CO2 on the anode. CO2 produced can further react with carbon fuel to generate CO via Boudouard reactions (C+CO2 → 2CO). Transient techniques consisting of pulse injection and step switch were used to study Boudouard reaction on C-SOFCs. The step switch and pulse transient studies showed that up to 90% of CO2 can be converted to CO, which was involved in electrochemical oxidation to increase power densities. …
