Correlation Among Physical And Electrochemical Behaviour Of Nanostructured Electrolytic Manganese Dioxide From Leach Liquor And Synthetic For Aqueous Asymmetric Capacitor, Manickam Minakshi, Avijit Biswal, David R. G Mitchell, Rob Jones, Carlos Fernandez

Australian Institute for Innovative Materials - Papers

An attempt has been made to correlate the differences in structural parameters, surface areas, morphology etc. with the electrochemical capacitive behaviour of the EMDs. The nanostructured electrolytic manganese dioxides (EMD) have been synthesized through electrodepositing MnO2 from two different leach liquors and a synthetic analogue thereof. The structural and chemical state was determined using X-ray diffraction (XRD) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) respectively. Multiplet structure determination led to estimates of the manganese valence states present in the EMD. The EMDs have been tested in an asymmetric capacitor which we have developed. This used activated carbon as the negative electrode and …

Examining travellers’ preferences for mode choices to understand a rela-tionship between traveller and transport for New South Wales (TfNSW) from the perspective of agency theory (AT) is the main focus of this paper. This paper emphasises on latent and traditional objective attributes to as-sess the mode choice process within the agency relationship as indicated in AT as a method by which the utility of the principal (traveller) can be max-imised. It is found that the probability of car use is significantly higher than public transport due to mismatch between traveller expectations and present transport services and it indicates an existence …

MnNiGa2 crystallizes in the L21 (Heusler) structure and has a ferromagnetic ordering temperature TC ∼ 192 K. Rietveld refinement of the neutron diffraction patterns indicates that the Ga atoms occupy the equivalent 8c position, while Mn and Ni share the 4a (0, 0, 0) and 4b (0.5, 0.5, 0.5) sites with a mixed occupancy of Mn and Ni atoms. It is found that that ∼83% of Mn and ∼17% Ni are located at the 4a site while ∼83% of Ni and ∼17% Mn occupy the 4b site. There is no evidence of a magneto-volume effect around TC. In agreement with …

Direct Observation Of Liquid-Like Behavior Of A Single Au Grain Boundary, Gilberto Casillas, Arturo Ponce, Jesus Velazquez-Salazar, M Jose-Yacaman Jan 2013

Direct Observation Of Liquid-Like Behavior Of A Single Au Grain Boundary, Gilberto Casillas, Arturo Ponce, Jesus Velazquez-Salazar, M Jose-Yacaman

Australian Institute for Innovative Materials - Papers

Behavior of matter at the nanoscale differs fromthat of the bulk due to confinement and surface effects. Here, we report a direct observation of liquid-like behavior of a single grain boundary formed by cold-welding Au nanoparticles, 40 nm in size, by mechanical manipulation in situ TEM. The grain boundary rotates almost freely due to the free surfaces and can rotate about 90 degrees. The grain boundary sustains more stress than the bulk, confirming a strong bonding between the nanoparticles. Moreover, this technique allows the measurement of the surface diffusion coefficient from experimental observations, which we compute for the Au nanoparticles. This …

Microstructure And Metal-Dielectric Transition Behaviour In A Percolative Al2o3-Fe Composite Via Selective Reduction, Zidong Zhang, Runhua Fan, Zhicheng Shi, Kelan Yan, Zhijia Zhang, Xiaolin Wang, S X. Dou Jan 2013

Microstructure And Metal-Dielectric Transition Behaviour In A Percolative Al2o3-Fe Composite Via Selective Reduction, Zidong Zhang, Runhua Fan, Zhicheng Shi, Kelan Yan, Zhijia Zhang, Xiaolin Wang, S X. Dou

Australian Institute for Innovative Materials - Papers

The electromagnetic (EM) medium plays a key role in many areas, such as communications, stealth technology, etc. Different EM properties are required for different applications. In this paper, we have obtained tunable EM properties in an Al2O3-Fe composite via selective reduction. By adjusting the content of one functional component, the composite shows totally different EM properties, in accordance with the predictions of effective medium theory. Hybrid EM behaviour is obtained near the percolation threshold, which has a close relationship with its microstructure.

The idea of bioabsorbable/biocorrodible stents has gained increasing attention in the last decade. Permanent coronary stents, traditionally made from 316L grade stainless steel, are routinely used for the treatment of blocked arteries. However, these stents can cause complications such as restenosis, thrombosis and the need for the patient to undergo prolonged antiplatelet therapy. Biodegradable metal stents provide an opportunity for the stent to remain in place for a period to ensure restoration of function and then degrade through a carefully controlled bio-corrosion process. Among the number of potentially suitable materials, Magnesium alloys have shown great promise as a stent material …

Intelligent Negotiation Behaviour Model For An Open Railway Access Market, S K. Wong, T K. Ho Jan 2010

Intelligent Negotiation Behaviour Model For An Open Railway Access Market, S K. Wong, T K. Ho

SMART Infrastructure Facility - Papers

In an open railway access market, the provisions of railway infrastructures and train services are separated and independent. Negotiations between the track owner and train service providers are thus required for the allocation of the track capacity and the formulation of the services timetables, in which each party, i.e. a stakeholder, exhibits intelligence from the previous negotiation experience to obtain the favourable terms and conditions for the track access. In order to analyse the realistic interacting behaviour among the stakeholders in the open railway access market schedule negotiations, intelligent learning capability should be included in the behaviour modelling. This paper …

Embracing Knowledge And Behaviour Management To Improve Performance Of Software Intensive Projects, Ricardo Peculis, Derek Rogers, Peter Campbell Jan 2007

Embracing Knowledge And Behaviour Management To Improve Performance Of Software Intensive Projects, Ricardo Peculis, Derek Rogers, Peter Campbell

SMART Infrastructure Facility - Papers

Many reasons have been offered to explain why software projects fail. Still, software intensive projects often present schedule delays, cost overruns and delivering products with reduced functionality. This paper argues that lack of knowledge is yet another factor that causes projects to under perform, which in turn drives undesirable social behaviour that worsens the situation. Software intensive projects develop solutions highly dependent on software that should satisfy a need. The engineering process to develop such complex solutions comprises of a series of transformations that transform products from one domain into products in another domain, requiring knowledge pertinent to both input …

Comparison Of Small-Field Behaviour In Mgb2, Low And High Temperature Superconductors, Alexey V. Pan, S X. Dou Jan 2006

Comparison Of Small-Field Behaviour In Mgb2, Low And High Temperature Superconductors, Alexey V. Pan, S X. Dou

Australian Institute for Innovative Materials - Papers

Different types of superconductors have been investigated at small magnetic fields (Ba) over wide temperature (T) ranges at different Ba orientations. It has been shown that the temperature dependence of the characteristic field (B*), separating the Ba-independent critical current density (Jc) plateau (single vortex pinning regime) and the region with Jc(Ba) (collective pinning), can be attributed either to the temperature dependence of the magnetic penetration depth for Nb-film and MgB2bulk superconductors, or to thermally activated processes for Bi-based superconductors and YBa2Cu3O7−δ superconducting …
