Zn-Doped Cu(100) Facet With Efficient Catalytic Ability For The Co2 Electroreduction To Ethylene, Yuefeng Zhang, Yong Zhao, Caiyun Wang, Zengxi Wei, Junliang Yang, Jianmin Ma

Australian Institute for Innovative Materials - Papers

Electrochemically converting CO2 into fuels and chemicals is an appealing strategy to create energy rich products. The highly demanded product ethylene has been preferably produced on Cu-based catalysts with abundant exposed Cu(100) facets. However, the performance is still limited by the large energy barrier for the C-C dimerization. Here, to lower the energy barrier, we tailor the electronic structure of Cu(100) by doping a series of transition metals using the density functional theory (DFT) method. The zinc-doped Cu(100) surface has shown a superior catalytic performance. Mechanistic study further reveals that doping with Zn alters the electronic structure around Cu, adjusts …

Australian Institute for Innovative Materials - Papers

It is a significant challenge to develop a high-efficiency synthetic methodology to access fully conjugated 2D conjugated polymer (CP)/covalent organic framework (COF) nanosheets (NSs) that have great application potential for electronics and energy. Herein, we report the exfoliation of a series of amorphous ethynyl-linked phthalocyanine (Pc) CPs (MPc-CPs, M = Fe, Co, Fe0.5Co0.5) into ultrathin MPc-CP NSs. Random coupling between the four regioisomers (with D4h, D2h, C2v and Cs symmetry) of the two tetra-β-substituted phthalocyanine precursors endows the resulting phthalocyanine conjugated polymers MPc-CPs with intrinsic structural defects and a disordered framework on individual layers. This in turn induces a diminished …

Australian Institute for Innovative Materials - Papers

Both the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) are crucial to water splitting, but require alternative active sites. Now, a general pelectron- assisted strategy to anchor single-atom sites (M=Ir, Pt, Ru, Pd, Fe, Ni) on a heterogeneous support is reported. The Matoms can simultaneously anchor on two distinct domains of the hybrid support, four-fold N/C atoms (M@NC), and centers of Co octahedra (M@Co), which are expected to serve as bifunctional electrocatalysts towards the HER and the OER. The Ir catalyst exhibits the best water-splitting performance, showing a low applied potential of 1.603V to achieve 10 mAcm@2 …

Mo2c/Cnt: An Efficient Catalyst For Rechargeable Li–Co2 Batteries, Yuyang Hou, Jiazhao Wang, Lili Liu, Yuqing Liu, Shulei Chou, Dongqi Shi, Hua-Kun Liu, Yu-Ping Wu, Weimin Zhang, Jun Chen

Australian Institute for Innovative Materials - Papers

The rechargeable Li-CO2 battery is a novel and promising energy storage system with the capability of CO2 capture due to the reversible reaction between lithium ions and carbon dioxide. Carbon materials as the cathode, however, limit both the cycling performance and the energy efficiency of the rechargeable Li-CO2 battery, due to the insulating Li2CO3 formed in the discharge process, which is difficult to decompose in the charge process. Here, a Mo2C/carbon nanotube composite material is developed as the cathode for the rechargeable Li-CO2 battery and can achieve high energy efficiency (77%) and improved cycling performance (40 cycles). A related mechanism …

3d Binder-Free Mose2 Nanosheets/Carbon Cloth Electrodes For Efficient And Stable Hydrogen Evolution Prepared By Simple Electrophoresis Deposition Strategy, Yundan Liu, Long Ren, Zhen Zhang, Xiang Qi, Hongxing Li, Jianxin Zhong

Australian Institute for Innovative Materials - Papers

We successfully developed a simple electrophoretic deposition (EPD) method to decorate the MoSe2 nanosheets on the carbon fiber surface of carbon cloth (MoSe2/CC). With this process, MoSe2 nanosheets can be uniformly and tightly deposited on this flexible conductor to form a 3D binder-free electrode for hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). The film thickness can also be controlled by the EPD time. Directly used as binder-free electrodes for hydrogen evolution reaction, the as-prepared 3D MoSe2/CC samples exhibit excellent catalytic activity in an acidic electrolyte (21 mA/cm2 at an over-potential of 250 mV). Variation of MoSe2 nanosheets film thickness in the electrodes could …

Australian Institute for Innovative Materials - Papers

Research on development of efficient passivation materials for high performance and stable quantum dot sensitized solar cells (QDSCs) is highly important. While ZnS is one of the most widely used passivation material in QDSCs, an alternative material based on ZnSe which was deposited on CdS/CdSe/TiO2 photoanode to form a semi-core/shell structure has been found to be more efficient in terms of reducing electron recombination in QDSCs in this work. It has been found that the solar cell efficiency was improved from 1.86% for ZnSe0 (without coating) to 3.99% using 2 layers of ZnSe coating (ZnSe2) deposited by successive ionic …

Australian Institute for Innovative Materials - Papers

Efficient dye-sensitized TiO2 solar cells based on a 2-thiophen-2-yl-vinyl-conjugated ruthenium photosensitizer and a conjugated polymer poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) have been fabricated. A maximum power conversion efficiency of 2.6% is achieved when the mesoporous TiO2 layer is 5–6 μm. The high fill factor (0.74), the open circuit voltage (0.78V), and the linear light intensity dependence of the short circuit current density (4.5mA cm−2 at 100 mW cm−2) make these devices promising for solid state photovoltaic applications.
