Investigation Of Electrochemical Noise In The Crevice Corrosion Of Q235 Carbon Cteel, Qian Hu, Yu-Bing Qiu, Xing-Peng Guo

Journal of Electrochemistry

The crevice corrosion behavior of Q235 carbon steels in a NaHCO3+NaCl solution was investigated by electrochemical noise(EN) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy(EIS).Three stages of crevice corrosion including the induction, the rapid transform and the stable development could be clearly distinguished. The characteristics of the electrochemical noise and the noise resistance Rn showed remarkable differences at each stage. The electrode area ratio(r) of outside to inside the crevice had a significant influence in the development of crevice corrosion. The time of the induction stage increased with increasing r.However, under the stable development stage of the crevice corrosion, the surface outside the crevice was at an active dissolution state …

Study On Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy Of Carbon Steel Eroded In Methyldiethanolamine Solution, Dong-Ping Wei, Rong-Zong Hu, Dan-Mei Pan, Wei-Xiong Huang, Rui Dong

Journal of Electrochemistry

Corrosion behavior of carbon steel in methyldiethanolamine(MDEA) solution was investigated by Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy(EIS).The results were showed that the corrosion rate of carbon steel in solution containing dissolved oxygen is higher than that in solution removed of dissolved oxygen before cathodic activation. They were reversed after cathodic activation. The corrosion rate is increased at first and then decreased when the concentration of MDEA is increased in the blank solutions. In the simulated solutions containing quantities of!heat-stable salts(HSS),the corrosion rate is decreased monotonously with increase of the MDEA concentration. As anodic polarization potential is increased, the EIS of carbon steel in HSS simulated solution showed characteristics …

Influence Of Chromium On The Semi-Conductive Property Of Passive Film Formed On Carbon Steel In Bicarbonate/Carbonate Buffer Solution, Jin-Bo Li, Jie-Wu Zhu, Mao-Sheng Zheng Aug 2007

Influence Of Chromium On The Semi-Conductive Property Of Passive Film Formed On Carbon Steel In Bicarbonate/Carbonate Buffer Solution, Jin-Bo Li, Jie-Wu Zhu, Mao-Sheng Zheng

Journal of Electrochemistry

The influence of chromium on the semi-conductive property of the passive film formed at carbon steel in bicarbonate/carbonate buffer solution,is investigated by using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy(EIS).The results showed that the passive film fomed at carbon steel appeared an n-type semi-conductive property, but if the passive film formed at carbon steel with 3% chromium content exhibited an a-p semi-conductive charatcer. The slopes of Mott-Schottky plot of two passive films increased with rising the formation potential,it indicating the defect density of the film decreasing, but for the passive film formed at carbon steel with chromium additive, its donor density was lower about one order of magnitude …

Adsorption Of Polyaspartic Acid From Sulphur Acid Solution On Carbon Steel And Its Corrosion Inhibition, Rong-Jing Cui, Ning Gu, Chun-Mei Li Aug 2005

Adsorption Of Polyaspartic Acid From Sulphur Acid Solution On Carbon Steel And Its Corrosion Inhibition, Rong-Jing Cui, Ning Gu, Chun-Mei Li

Journal of Electrochemistry

The role of Polyaspartic acid in the corrosion inhibition of 45~(#) carbon steel in sulphuric acid solution has been investigated by polarization curve andelectrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). The influences of the concentration and the temperature of PASP on the corrosion inhibition efficiency were determined. The results indicated that the PASP as the corrosion inhibitor mainly inhibitated the anode; within the experiment temperature, the inhibitor efficiency decreased with the raising of the temperature and PASP had a good inhibiting performance at 10℃, the corrosion inhibition efficiency of PASP for carbon steel increased with the increase of the concentration of PASP when …

Anodic Polarization Behaviors Of Carbon Steel In Bicarbonate Solution, Jing-Mao Zhao, Yu Zuo Feb 2005

Anodic Polarization Behaviors Of Carbon Steel In Bicarbonate Solution, Jing-Mao Zhao, Yu Zuo

Journal of Electrochemistry

The anodic polarization curves of mild steel were measured in sodium bicarbonate solution of various concentrations, and the surface products were analyzed by XPS. Two anodic current peaks and two passive zones are observed in all the curves. When HCO_3~- ions concentration is below 0.1mol/L, the two peaks are so close that the first passive zone is difficult to be observed. When HCO_3~- ions concentration is above 0.1 mol/L, the first peak appears clear, while the second becomes smaller. The XPS results indicate that the out layer of film formed at a higher potential is mainly composed of Fe_2O_(3,) and …

Corrosive Electrochemical Behavior Of Carbon Steel In Microbiological Medium, Jing Liu, Hong-Bo Fan, Hai-Ping Xu, Jia-Shen Zheng, Li-Ming Xu, Zong-Qiang Mao

Journal of Electrochemistry

Sulfate_reducing bacteria(SRB)grows and propagates, PH of the solution is dropped from 7.5 to 5.8,and forms the biofilms on carbon steel in culture medium. The micro_environment on the surface of carbon steel is changed under the biofilms, the factors accelerate the formation of the pitting corrosion. When the biofilm on carbon steel is cleaned out,the surface of carbon steel have the non_uniform pitting corrosion. The activity of SRB and the porous structure of biofilms induced the initiation and development of the pitting corrosion of carbon steel. The process of microbiologically induced corrosion(MIC) involves the development of SRB activity, which promotes the permeation of gydrogen into …

Current Oscillations In The System Of Carbon Steel/Phosphoric Acid/Platinum, Shao-Yuan Shi, Jin-Ping Wu, Jing Liu, An Lin

Journal of Electrochemistry

The periodic, aperiodic, chaotic and mixed_mode oscillations can occur in the process of the anodic electrodissolution of carbon steel in the solution of dilute phosphoric acid. More plentiful dynamic behaviors can be found in this system compared with the system of Fe/H 3PO 4/Pt.

Investigation Of Solution Chemistry In Crevice Of Carbon Steel And Its Anodic Polarization Behavior, Zhuo Chen, Cuiwei Du, Bei Cao, Yinshun Wu, Hai Yang, Zhengrong Zhang

Journal of Electrochemistry

A self_made wedge_shaped simulated crevice apparatus was designed to investigate the solution chemistry in crevice of carbon steel and its anodic polarization behavior. For carbon steel with 3.5%(wt) NaCl , the change and the distribution of electrode potential , concentration of Cl- and pH value of solution in the crevice, and the current density of metal in the crevice were measured respectively under various conditions of anodic polarization. The results showed that without polarization the metal about 2 cm away from the opening of the crevice was attacked preferentially because of its lowest free corrosion potential. The anodic polarization promoted …
