To achieve the goals of best fuel economy, peak power and low soot emissions in military engines it is necessary to control the combustion process. An in-cylinder combustion sensor is required to achieve the goals of controlling the combustion process. Over the last four decades, in-cylinder pressure transducers and ion current sensors have been available for research and development.
