Plastics: Mold Design And Fabrication, Duane H. Rippe Jun 1970

Plastics: Mold Design And Fabrication, Duane H. Rippe

Graduate Research Papers

Students have often asked if additional molds were available which would make different objects other than golf tees. Literature provided with the injection molder described several methods of mold construction which could be fabricated in the school shop. The writer considered the possibility of making another mold, however, a time factor and limited experience prohibited construction.

The problem seemed to be appropriate for the Projects Course 33:270 at the University of Northern Iowa. The course and research involved would assimilate the needed information to construct a mold and to teach plastic injection mold construction more effectively.

Production Attachment For Wood Turning, Julian A. Olson Jun 1970

Production Attachment For Wood Turning, Julian A. Olson

Graduate Research Papers

As an industrial arts instructor for the short period of three years the writer has recognized a definite shortcoming in his instruction of the woodworking lathe. Instruction related to the woodworking lathe by the conventional "hand tool" methods is most important in leading to the students' understanding of basic turning ideas. This instruction, however, falls short of providing an up-to-date picture of the woodworking lathes used by industry.

As a means of overcoming this problem, the writer undertook the study of lathes as a project for the course, "Projects in Industrial Arts". This research provided information necessary in the construction …

Australian Tractor Test Report No. 58 : Massey-Ferguson 165, G H. Vasey, W. T. Brown Jan 1970

Australian Tractor Test Report No. 58 : Massey-Ferguson 165, G H. Vasey, W. T. Brown

Journal of the Department of Agriculture, Western Australia, Series 4

THE Massey-Ferguson 165 is a general purpose farm tractor. The test tractor gave 50 drawbar h.p. with 59 h.p. at the P.T.O. at rated engine speed it comes within Class 5 of the Australian Standard Classification of Wheeled Tractors for Agricultural Purposes, AS Dl 0-1967. It is equipped with 18.4 x 28 in. pneumatic tyres. It has a threespeed gear box with a ratio change giving 6 forward and reverse speeds.

Urea Drilled With Seed Affects Germination And Yield, M G. Mason, A. Loutit, J. A. C. Smith, D. Highman, P. Stallwood Jan 1970

Urea Drilled With Seed Affects Germination And Yield, M G. Mason, A. Loutit, J. A. C. Smith, D. Highman, P. Stallwood

Journal of the Department of Agriculture, Western Australia, Series 4

Trials in 1968 at Burracoppin and York again showed it is safer to topdress urea just before seeding than to drill a mixture of seed and urea.

At all but the lowest urea rates, urea drilled with the seed reduced the number of plants emerging and surviving, and reduced final wheat yields.

How Many Acres Per Hour?, J G. Drever Jan 1970

How Many Acres Per Hour?, J G. Drever

Journal of the Department of Agriculture, Western Australia, Series 4

MANY farm tractor operators don't know exactly how much land is covered in an hour by implements drawn by their tractors. This information, useful on any farm where tractors are used, is of particular value in contract work.

The capacity of the machine or implement, or in other words, its rate of working, depends on the width of the machine, how fast it travels, how efficiently it is operated and the time it works.

Systems Reliability Using The Flow Graph, Kenneth Edward Farrier Jan 1970

Systems Reliability Using The Flow Graph, Kenneth Edward Farrier

Dissertations and Theses

The problem of calculating the reliability of a complex system of interacting elements is delineated to a linear system, no element of the system having a reliability distribution in terms of any other e1ement of the system, where only one path is taken through the system at a time. A precise definition is then developed to specify the reliability of the linear, single path at a time, system. A precise and concise generating function is found that effortlessly produces the reliability of the linear, single path at a time, system directly from the reliability flew graph of the system.

The Setting And Control Of Disc Ploughs, P A. Taylor Jan 1970

The Setting And Control Of Disc Ploughs, P A. Taylor

Journal of the Department of Agriculture, Western Australia, Series 4

THE trailed disc plough is the most commonly used tillage implement in Australian broadacre farming, yet it is considered in some areas to be difficult to set and to operate. These notes provide information resulting from C.S.I.R.O. research to assist operators in the control and operation of trailed disc ploughs.
