The Impact Of A Carbon Tax On Emissions, Jessica Creech May 2023

The Impact Of A Carbon Tax On Emissions, Jessica Creech

Industrial Engineering Undergraduate Honors Theses

A carbon tax is an economic policy that aims to reduce various emissions to serve the protection of the environment. Versions of this policy have been implemented in multiple countries across the world to introduce a cost for contributing to environmental damage. Since climate change is prevalent in today’s world, finding an effective method to reduce emissions is essential. However, many countries hesitate to utilize a carbon tax for two reasons. First, they are unsure if the carbon tax is effective at reducing emissions. Second, there is a concern that the implementation of such a tax will be detrimental to …

A Microsimulation Of Traffic, Parking, And Emissions At California Polytechnic State University – San Luis Obispo, Steven Michael Kilbert Feb 2011

A Microsimulation Of Traffic, Parking, And Emissions At California Polytechnic State University – San Luis Obispo, Steven Michael Kilbert

Master's Theses

Traffic and parking congestion are significant issues at many universities nationwide. The delays experienced result in wasted time, money, and fuel for students, faculty and staff, not to mention the negative contributions to the environment. This paper quantifies the amount of vehicle emissions generated during an average morning peak hour in the university environment. Using VISSIM and CMEM microsimulation packages, a model is created for California Polytechnic State University- San Luis Obispo to aggregate the collective transportation behaviors and practices of the campus and recognize the implications these behaviors pose on the transportation network as a whole. Reasonable estimates are …

Cap-And-Trade Modeling And Analysis For Electric Power Generation Systems, Patricio Rocha Jan 2011

Cap-And-Trade Modeling And Analysis For Electric Power Generation Systems, Patricio Rocha

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

Cap-and-trade is the most discussed CO2 emissions control scheme in the U.S. It is a market-based mechanism that has been used previously to successfully reduce the levels of SO2 and NOx emitted by power generators. Since electricity generators are responsible for about 40% of the CO2 emissions in the U.S., the implementation of CO2 cap-and-trade will have a significant impact on electric power generation systems. In particular, cap-and-trade will influence the investment decisions made by power generators. These decisions in turn, will affect electricity prices and demand. If the allowances (or emission permits) created by …
