A Comparison Of Crushing Machines, Clyde Willis Hall, Walter Henry Wager Jan 1914

A Comparison Of Crushing Machines, Clyde Willis Hall, Walter Henry Wager

Bachelors Theses

"Much has been written on the comparative efficiency of the various sorts of crushing machines used in the art of Ore Dressing, but it must be confessed that the subject has by no means been reduced to one of the exact sciences as yet. This is rather a sad condition of affairs, for as is of course apparent to the most casual observer, the whole fabric of ore dressing rests and depends to a large degree on the efficiency and economy of the crushing machinery. Inefficient crushing means high costs, irrespective of the thoroughness and cheapness with which the ensuing …

Investigation With Rock Drills, Tirso CastillóN Jan 1914

Investigation With Rock Drills, Tirso CastillóN

Bachelors Theses

"The object of this thesis is to investigate the different shapes of bits in rock drilling. My intention at first was to run more extensive tests on bits, but due to the large amount of work necessary in rigging up the apparatus, and the maintainence sic of same, I found it necessary to reduce my work to two bits, which I name Flat and Regular, the Flat Bit being an invention of Professor C. R. Forbes, and the Regular Bit being the common one used by the Leyner Company"--page 2.

The Development Of Mine Number One Of The Chinook Coal Company, Limited, Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada, Theodore Saunders Dunn Jan 1914

The Development Of Mine Number One Of The Chinook Coal Company, Limited, Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada, Theodore Saunders Dunn

Bachelors Theses

"The Lethbridge Mining District lies about 50 miles north of the International Boundary and approximately 280 miles north of Great Falls, Montana. The country is rolling prairie with deeply cut river vallies sic and is practically treeless except for a few willows along the river bottoms. The rainfall is moderate but the climate is severe; the summers being short and hot while temperatures of -50 degrees F. are not uncommon during the long winters. On account of the severe winters and the scarcity of timber there is a good market for coal during the entire year as it is the …

Investigation Of Rock Drill Bits, George Elmer Abernathy Jan 1914

Investigation Of Rock Drill Bits, George Elmer Abernathy

Bachelors Theses

"The object of this thesis is an attempt to determine the relative efficiency of rock drill bits.

The bits compared were the ordinary double chisel bit, sharpened with a Leyner drill sharpener, and the same bit after it had been filed so that the point was not sharp, but a flat surface 3/32 of an inch wide at the outside, diameter of the bit and tapering to a point at the center of the bit"--page 1.

Mining Methods And Geology Of The Boston Consolidated Mine At Bingham, Utah, James Leonidas Boucher Jan 1914

Mining Methods And Geology Of The Boston Consolidated Mine At Bingham, Utah, James Leonidas Boucher

Bachelors Theses

"This thesis does not so much attempt a detailed report on the geology of the disseminates ores of Bingham Canyon as a more particular description of the underground methods of mining these ores as well as studies in drilling, sampling, etc. Steam shovel mining was studied to some extent but almost all the data for the following pages has been derived from the Boston Consolidated Underground Mine and the Old Utah Mine. The Boston consolidated, especially, has been studied for this mine is the largest and, at late date, was the only underground porphyry mine working, the Old Utah having …

Leaching Copper Tailings, Howard Gove Halsey, Frederick Gallaway Moses Jan 1914

Leaching Copper Tailings, Howard Gove Halsey, Frederick Gallaway Moses

Bachelors Theses

"There are, scattered throughout the country, enormous amounts of rock that, by the discovery of a quick, cheap, and practiable sic method of extracting their metallic content could be turned into valuable ores. This has already been accomplished for gold and silver by the adaption of the cyanide method to their treatment. The next in order, both because of the value of the metal and the amount of material available in mill dumps and in the ground, is copper. there are dumps containing millions of tons of this material lying idle because of the fact that with the present methods …

The Efficiency Of The Kerruish Smoke Consumer And Coal Economizer, Arthur F. Truex, Gilbert F. Metz Jan 1914

The Efficiency Of The Kerruish Smoke Consumer And Coal Economizer, Arthur F. Truex, Gilbert F. Metz

Bachelors Theses

"The Kerruish Smoke consumer is the invention of Mr. H. B. Kerruish and is patented in the United States under the Patent Number 1,046,196. The tests herein shown were made for the purpose of determining the practical value of the device as a smoke consumer, and as a fuel economizer. Many forms of these devices have been put on the market, some using a steam spray, and others using air in a manner similar to the Kerruish apparatus"--Scope of the Thesis, page 2.

Comparative Tests Of Rock Drill Bits For Piston Machines, Thomas C. Robson, Miguel Leon Cepeda Jan 1914

Comparative Tests Of Rock Drill Bits For Piston Machines, Thomas C. Robson, Miguel Leon Cepeda

Bachelors Theses

"The object of this thesis is to find out the relative cutting qualities of different kinds of rock drill bits. The bits tested were: the regular cross bit, the Z bit of the Southeast Missouri type and the bull bit of the Joplin type. All these bits were made on a No. 5 Leyner sharpener and were tempered as nearly alike as possible. All conditions were kept as nearly uniform as possible during the various tests; air pressure, length of stroke, size of bit, etc., the only variables entering being the difference in bits and personal equation of operators"--Introduction, page …

Tests Of Rock Drill Bits For Water-Leyner Machine, Riley Marsh Simrall, Edmond Otis Stoliker Jan 1914

Tests Of Rock Drill Bits For Water-Leyner Machine, Riley Marsh Simrall, Edmond Otis Stoliker

Bachelors Theses

"The above investigation was made in the Mining Laboratory of the Missouri School of Mines, under the direction of Prof. C. R. Forbes, with the following object in view: To make comparative tests of various types of regular and special bits for the Water-Leyner machine as to drilling speed and total distance drilled by each bit without resharpening"--Introduction, page 2.

The Determination Of Oils In Limestone, Claude Calvin Cushwa Jan 1914

The Determination Of Oils In Limestone, Claude Calvin Cushwa

Bachelors Theses

"The purpose of this work has been to establish the occurrence or the non-occurrence of petroleum in certain limestones. The results of this work, if oil were proved to exist, would have a direct bearing on the theories of the origin of oils"--Introduction, page 1.
