Numerical Analysis Of Two Phase Flow And Heat Transfer In Condensers, Pooya Mirzabeygi Aug 2014

Numerical Analysis Of Two Phase Flow And Heat Transfer In Condensers, Pooya Mirzabeygi

Electronic Thesis and Dissertation Repository

Steam surface condensers are commonly used in the power generation industry and their performance significantly affects the efficiency of the power plant. Therefore, it is vital to acquire a better understanding of the complex phenomena occurring inside condensers. A general three-dimensional numerical model is developed in this study to simulate the two-phase flow and heat transfer inside full-scale industrial condensers with irregular tube bundle shapes. The Eulerian-Eulerian two-phase model is selected to simulate gas and liquid flows and the interaction between them. A porous media approach is adopted to model the presence of large number of tubes in the condenser. …

Perovskite Catalysts Enhanced Combustion On Porous Media And Thermoelectric Power Conversion, Manuel Robayo Jan 2014

Perovskite Catalysts Enhanced Combustion On Porous Media And Thermoelectric Power Conversion, Manuel Robayo

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

A combustion chamber incorporating a high temperature porous matrix was design and tested. The effects and merits of combining combustion on porous media and catalytic enhancement were explored, in addition to the proof of concept of integrating these technologies with simple heat engines, such as thermoelectric generators, to generate efficient and reliable power. The direct observation of the flame during the combustion becomes possible due to a specially designed stainless steel chamber incorporating a quartz window where the initiation and propagation of the combustion reaction/flame was directly visible. The simple design of the combustion chamber allowed for a series of …

A Circuit-Based Algorithm For Two-Phase Flow At The Pore Scale In Porous Media, Todd Dorethy Jan 2014

A Circuit-Based Algorithm For Two-Phase Flow At The Pore Scale In Porous Media, Todd Dorethy

Open Access Theses & Dissertations

Models of two-phase flow in porous media are of practical interest in many fields of science and engineering such as in oil recovery and hydrology. For this class of problem, an immiscible fluid is injected into a single-phase, porous medium to evict its valuable, native fluid. Because the aim is to amass as much of the indigenous fluid as possible, models attempt to output reliable flow regime patterns depicting how well the invading fluid displaces the native fluid.

Flow regime patterns generally depend upon the geometry of the domain, stimulation at the boundaries, and properties of the invading and native …
