The shock/turbulent boundary layer interaction (STBLI) generated by a sharp fin with a 60 deg leading edge sweep mounted above a flat plate at Mach 2.5 was studied numerically. Incipient separation due to this highly swept fin was determined by varying the fin angle to the incoming freestream. The effect of a small fin/plate gap on STBLI incipient separation was established. Sweeping the fin increases the deflection required for incipient separation as the sweep reduces the interaction strength. A gap causes flow leakage under the fin, further reducing the interaction strength on the windward side. The incipient angle of attack …

Monopiles are used in the construction of offshore wind turbines and typically have a design life of 25 to 50 years. Over their lifecycle, monopiles are exposed to a corrosive saltwater environment, facilitating a galvanic oxidation process that quickly degrades the structure. This process can be mitigated by coating the monopile in a protective barrier and implementing cathodic protection techniques. Historically, monopile designers assumed the interior of the pile would be completely sealed and the galvanic corrosion process would eventually consume all the available oxygen, halting the reaction. The inefficient design of pumping stations leads to undesirable flow characteristics and the formation of vortices in the sump. These undesirable flow features adversely affect the pumping unit performance and increase the operation and maintenance cost. This study presents the three-dimensional (3-D) numerical analysis of the influence of the plate obstacle installed at the entrance of the long flanged diffuser on the simple Savonius rotor performance by ANSYS 2022 R1. In the beginning, the 3-D numerical model is validated using the sst k-ω turbulence model with the previous published experimental results at the same conditions, and they are in good agreement with each other.
