Subharmonic Resonance Of One Fourth Order Of Electrostatically Actuated Mems Circular Plates: Amplitude-Frequency Response, Dumitru Caruntu, Julio Beatriz, Miguel Martinez

Mechanical Engineering Faculty Publications and Presentations

This work deals with the amplitude-frequency response subharmonic resonance of 1/4 order of electrostatically actuated circular plates. The method of multiple scales is used to model the hard excitations and to predict the response. This work predicts that the steady state solutions are zero amplitude solutions, and non-zero amplitude solutions which consist of stable and unstable branches. The effects of parameters such as voltage and damping on the response are predicted. As the voltage increases, the non-zero amplitude solutions are shifted to lower frequencies. As the damping increases, the non-zero steady-state amplitudes are shifted to higher amplitudes, so larger initial …

Nonlinear Dynamics Of Electrostatically Actuated M/Nems Plates To Include Casimir And Van Der Waals Effects, Reynaldo Oyervides

Theses and Dissertations - UTB/UTPA

The amplitude-frequency response and voltage-amplitude response of electrostatically actuated micro and nano-electromechanical systems (M/NEMS) clamped circular plates are investigated. The system is actuated by soft AC voltage at frequency near half natural frequency of the plate, and another case near natural frequency of the plate, they resulting in primary and parametric resonances of the system, respectively. The system is first analytically modeled using the Method of Multiple Scales (MMS). MMS results are then compared to Reduced Order Model (ROM) method frequency response numerical simulations. Besides MMS and ROM, time response simulations are conducted. The agreement of the frequency responses of …
